The Fashion At Rihanna’s Diamond Ball Was Better Than Any Award Show Ever

Rihanna’s 2019 Diamond Ball is in its fifth year, and the annual gala raises funds for the artist’s Clara Lionel Foundation. The foundation supports health, education, and emergency response programs for impoverished communities around the world. Each year A-listers attend the ball, but this year the 2019 Diamond Ball fashion was extra on point. It was hands down the most exciting red carpet of the year.

The styles on the red carpet ran the gauntlet. Many decided to honor the "diamond" part of the Diamond Ball by arriving in gowns that glittered and shimmered. Others went with unexpected floral motifs, or bright hues. There also happened to be a lot of "naked dresses" on the red carpet, making sheer gowns a prevailing trend at the gala.

Rihanna stole the show in her Givenchy Haute Couture gown, which was a turtleneck number that revealed an exposed skirt hoop at the hem. The fall-ready dress had long sleeves, a turtleneck that went up to her chin, and a hem that flared out into a mermaid silhouette. The hoop skirt belled out underneath, creating an interesting deconstructed touch to the look. Other celebs on the red carpet were Cardi B, Normani, Karlie Kloss, and more. Check out some of the best looks from the Diamond Ball red carpet below.

Rihanna

Rihanna’s haute couture gown set the stage for all the fashionable looks on the 2019 Diamond Ball red carpet.

Cardi B

Cardi B looked like she literally dressed for a ball with her pink tiered princess gown. The dress came from Georges Hobeika’s Fall 2019 Couture collection.

Kehlani

Kehlani also went the turtleneck route with her gala dress, but her version was semi-sheer and glittered silver. The feathered gown was from designer Yousef Aljasmi.

Karlie Kloss

Kloss donned a sheer black cocktail dress that dipped low at the neckline and was accented with diamond jewelry.

Normani

The "Motivation" singer wore a structured white gown from Australian-based label J’Aton Couture. It featured a mini skirt that trailed down to a train, one long sleeve, and a princess-like collar that wrapped around her shoulders.

Megan Thee Stallion

Megan Thee Stallion gave off a "Jessica Rabbit" vibe on the red carpet with her black glittering sweetheart neckline dress, black opera gloves, diamond cuffs, and cascading waves.

Pharrell Williams and Helen Lasichanh

Williams wore his signature shorts and shin-length white socks (of course,) but Lasichanh went with something a little more military-inspired. Her white sheer dress was layered with a sequined vest that looked like chain-link armor. Then at her wrists she wore golden cuffs, looking like a Roman warrior queen on the red carpet.

Shanina Shaik

Shaik wore a sheer glittery dress that had a touch of Victorian glamour to it. The dress had a square neckline and puffed princess shoulders, and the white lace ran down the length of her stomach, giving off the look of a bodice.

Ebonee Davis

Davis wore a flirty sheer lilac mini that gave off a disco toga effect thanks to the one long sleeve.

G-Eazy and Yasmin Wijnaldum

Wijnaldum wore the highest of high ponytails to the red carpet, and donned a glittering sheer dress that put the "diamond" in Diamond Ball.

Paula Patton

Patton wore a black gown with sheer sleeves that was accented with intricate golden embroidery.

Pritika Swarup

Swarup went with 1930s glamour for her red carpet look, wearing a silk lilac dress with long cuffed sleeves and sequin-accented shoulders.

ASAP Rocky

ASAP Rocky channeled Pharrell and paired his tuxedo jacket with a pair of shorts.

Danielle Herrington

Herrington looked fiery in a red orange column dress.

Erica Mena

Mena went for glitter with her midnight black sequined ball gown.

From couture gowns to sparkling dresses, the Diamond Ball red carpet had some of the best fashion looks of the year.

The key is to embrace the monochromatic effect of this head-to-toe look and pair it with a striped sweater in similar tones. Ground the whole look with black booties, and it’s a totally wearable ensemble for the workweek and even cooler for the weekend.

The Best Beauty Trends of NYFW Spring 2020

To capture the spirit of NYFW Spring/Summer 2020, look no further than the mother of makeup herself: Pat McGrath. Backstage at Marc Jacobs, no two looks were the same: there were however plenty of bedazzled lids, mega lashes, smokey eyes, and, of course, glitter. “Some extravagance, some natural, it’s just kind of like a nod to the real world, the way that nowadays everybody loves to play with makeup,” explained McGrath.

Though New York Fashion Week has come and gone, in its wake are countless looks for beauty enthusiasts—and Instagram—to explore. Perennial favorites—minimalist makeup and glowing skin—make an appearance every fashion month, but from grunge-tinged beauty at Tom Ford and slicked back hair at Proenza Schuoeler to watercolor blush at Jason Wu and rhinestone-encrusted lids, well, everywhere, a handful of trends have established themselves as looks to keep an eye on as the season progresses. Take a look back at the best beauty looks of NYFW, here.

All That Glitters

Euphoria was ubiquitous this season with countless makeup looks that, if not already inspired by, would look right at home on the wildly popular HBO show. The week kicked off with Pat McGrath’s stunning punk-meets-kabuki makeup on Ariel Nicholson at Tomo Koizumi and makeup artist Kabuki’s graphic neon lids at Jeremy Scott, but glitter quickly established itself as one of the weeks biggest trend at Pyer Moss, Anna Sui, R13 and more.

Expressionist Eyes

Yet another W predicted trend from this summer was all over NYFW, and it seems like ethereal, painterly makeup will be a staple this season. Just look to Jonathan Cohen, Eckhaus Latta, Vera Wang, Jason Wu, Christian Siriano, Ulla Johnson, and countless other shows. Delicate white and glitter detailing at Anna Sui and paisley-inspired lines at Rosie Assoulin offered a more minimal take, while clouds and sunbursts at Mansur Gavriel complemented the youthful presentation.

Precious Stones

Perhaps breakout look of the week: bejeweled headpieces at Khaite and Area, pearl-encrusted hair in the Rodarte lookbook and at Alice + Olivia, and “floating pearl” ear cuffs at Prabal Gurung. While this multi-colored crystal and surrealist shadow look at Area with (including matching bedazzled nails by Naomi Yasuda) was a stand-out this season, McGrath’s infinite bejeweled iterations at Marc Jacobs proved jewels to be both statement-making and surprisingly wearable.

‘80s Influence

Punk isn’t dead—at least not according to NYFW. From nu-wave to grunge, the ‘80s were alive and kicking this season: crimped fauxhawks and smokey shadow at Tom Ford, Jem and the Holograms-inspired pastel wigs at Jeremy Scott. Slicked back hair and deep side parts was also a notable theme of the season, with plenty of coifs that would feel right at home on peak-Gordon Gekko Wall Street at Proenza Schouler, Michael Kors and Laquan Smith, with Tory Burch adding some very on-decade hair combs to their ‘dos.

Terracotta Tones

This summer’s chicest shade has finally shown it’s staying power. From the soft dainty ginger blush at Carolina Herrera to the poppy apricot nails at Oscar De La Renta, this autumn showed a more subdued take on the Hi-C hue everywhere this summer. While many looks gravitated towards the softer end of the spectrum, Sir John’s shimmering rust tones at Tommy Hilfiger offered a seasonal take to carry the color into the fall and beyond.

French Tips

While there were plenty of show-stopping manicures at NYFW, the most noteworthy is the most simple. French manicures are nothing new to the runway and red carpet—look no further than Normani’s updated take at the VMA’s last month—but gone are the clunky nails of the early 00s. In their place are delicate twists on a classic: Betina Goldstein created a matte “double cornered” french for the Kith show, and returned to the trend again at the Khaite show, updating it with a sheer base and barely-there “micro” tip.

Why Savannah Miller is fed up with Cinderella wedding gowns

If you’re going to buy a Savannah Miller wedding gown, toss your Disney dress dreams out the window.

“For me, the major thing is that the bride feels comfortable and feels like she is the best version of herself. When the gown gets too fitted or the skirt gets too big, you can’t go to the bathroom by yourself? No, no, no! You’re supposed to be having the best day of your life, but you can’t go to the bathroom yourself?!” says the bohemian bridal designer.

Miller, who previously designed a contemporary line with her movie-star sis, Sienna Miller, tells Threads that she occasionally whips up custom creations (including a slip number called “Honor” and a cape-gown) in vibrant colors for Sienna and A-list pals like Alexa Chung and Poppy Delevingne.

“We are starting to talk about producing an evening line, but we don’t have a date yet,” she says. And if that doesn’t work out, there’s always chicken.

“Sienna and I joke about opening a rotisserie joint. Every Sunday, we have a respective Sunday roast in each of our homes across the world. And people say, ‘you should bottle this gravy,’ because our gravy is so good,” she says with a laugh. “We will open our roast-chicken joint on the Lower East Side, and we will wear overalls and gingham headbands. Never say never!”

Woman’s 10 stone weight loss on a diet of choc brownie sundaes and fried chicken – The Sun

TIPPING the scales at 22 stone, Erica Leigh knew something in her life desperately needed to change.

She was treating food "like a drug" and overeating to such an extent it often made her physically sick.

And she could barely move – with her tired body riddled with aches and pains.

Erica's reality check came during an uncomfortable conversation with her doctor – where he told her she might be heading for an early grave.

The event planner decided to sign up to Weight Watchers in a desperate bid to lose weight and has since lost an impressive ten stone.

Erica had struggled with being overweight ever since she was a child.

Last week, when I used this “before” photo for #transformationtuesday, someone suggested that I recreate the outfit. Since this has become my go-to before photo, I loved the idea and knew I had to do it! Same outfit – 146 lb. difference. It’s still shocking, sometimes, when I snap a photo and then look at the result. I’m not entirely used to what I see in pictures. It’s been almost 2 years of progress with @ww, and I’m still getting used to the physical changes. Some days, I still feel like the girl in the photo on the left. Maybe I always will? It’s complicated, this experience. It’s also really interesting and I’m learning things about myself I never could have anticipated at the start. There are so many twists and turns and a-ha moments and peaks and valleys along this journey. Some are good, some are bad, some are great, some are hard. And she would attempt to lose the weight every few years and see some moderate success but then just gain the weight back again.

She said: "It was a frustrating cycle, and I got to the point where I was just plain tired of thinking about it. So, I embraced the weight.

"I accepted that I was a big girl, got comfortable with that, took pride in it, and loved myself where I was.

"While I'm glad I found that confidence, I also found myself reaching my heaviest ever weight and had some uncomfortable conversations with my doctor about my overall health."

And Erica admits she was terrified at the lack of control she had over her diet – as she was constantly overspending and overeating.

She added: "I was sedentary, tired most of the time, and experienced all kinds of miscellaneous aches and pains.

"I was finding any excuse to eat, until I was physically sick, and then lying about how much or how often I was eating.

"I was also overspending on food. This lack of control scared me.

Erica's tips for weight loss success

1. Be kind to yourself

Be kind to yourself, even the version of you in your "before" pics. I started at my heaviest weight but with the highest level of confidence I had ever had. I like my life now better, but I don't think I could have stayed consistent if I hadn't started in a place of confidence.

2. Know that it won't be easy

If you have a significant amount of weight to lose, know that it will not be easy and it won't be quick—but it will be worth it. Anything that promises you health or weight loss in a fast and easy way is lying to you. It takes work, and that’s a tough thing to accept.

3. Celebrate your successes

Be open to the hard days and celebrate the successes, both big and small.

4. Be ready to fight

There is no quick fix. There is no secret. There is not trick I can share with you to make it happen. Make it easy. You have to be ready to fight for it. And you should, because you are worth it and I promise you won’t regret it.

5. Learn

There are so many twists and turns and a-ha moments and peaks and valleys along this journey. Some are good, some are bad, some are great, some are hard. But they’re all important if I chose to learn from them.

"I didn't just need to cut back a little on calories and exercise a little bit more; I needed to make serious changes that addressed the damaging, frightening habits that had become my norm."

After signing up to Weight Watchers, Erica slowly cut out fatty foods from her diet.

However the weight loss group's points structure means she can still have fried chicken tenders for lunch and a mini brownie sundae almost every night.

Talking about eating her favourite treats, she said: "It was important to me to find a sustainable program that was going to provide both structure and flexibility to enjoy lots of different types of food.

2 years and 145 pounds difference! Had a great time at the @gafsociety yesterday – enjoyed lots of tasty foods and, of course, so much beer. I’m at a place where I can have these “splurge” days, enjoy them, track them, and move on. No guilt, but also recognition that these have to be “sometimes” experiences. Yesterday was fun and today I’m back to business as usual. I will say, though, with the 25k steps and 4 hours of “aerobic activity” my FitBit logged (so much dancing!) all that beer probably won’t end up impacting weigh in on Friday 😂 ———————- #ww #wwcommunity #wwfreestyle #wellnessthatworks #weightlosstransformation #weightlossjourney #weightloss #beforeandafter #beforeandafterweightloss #beforeandduring #beforeandduringweightloss #katcrew #katcrewslay

"For me, tracking foods using their points system just made sense. It was easy to make the program part of my daily routine.

"It was also important to me to remain open to trying new foods and recipes.

"I knew I couldn't keep eating what I was before WW, so I had to be open-minded.

"I save room for a mini brownie sundae almost every night.

"I put a Fiber One 70-calorie brownie in the microwave to warm it, then top it with low-cal vanilla ice cream, sugar-free caramel, and strawberries."

Erica also signed up with a personal trainer who she saw once a week for 30 minutes at her local gym to maximise her weight loss.

And after getting more and more into her exercise she soon committed to doing 30 minutes of activity, three times a week at home.

She even started running and is now training to do a half marathon next February.

Erica said: "Whether it's tracking, choosing the more nutritious option over the bigger indulgence, skipping the donuts on the counter at work, or working out when you don't feel like it, these little moments make up the journey.

"These moments are opportunities for you to commit daily to the life you're building for yourself. You'll never regret making the better choice when it feels so hard to do so."

Erica's new diet

  • Breakfast: One apple, one banana with a 1/2-tablespoon of peanut butter, one hard-boiled egg, one chicken sausage link, and a bagel with a few sprays of I Can't Believe It's Not Butter.
  • Lunch: Leftovers for lunch are the easiest way for me to stay on track. I usually make roasted vegetables, air fryer chicken tenders, and brown rice to enjoy all week.
  • Snacks: An apple and a mini Dive Bar (my favorite is the Trash Can Cookie flavour). I also love Snacklins (the Chesapeake Bay flavor is so, so good).
  • Dinner: Salmon with sweet potato fries, both made in the air fryer, with steamed veggies.
  • Dessert: I save room for a mini brownie sundae almost every night. I put a Fiber One 70-calorie brownie in the microwave to warm it, then top it with low-cal vanilla ice cream, sugar-free caramel, and strawberries.

I remember taking the photo on the left. I was 2 months in to @ww and about 20 lbs down. I felt amazing. I felt like this thing that had seemed big and impossible for so long … might actually be possible. I’ve chased that feeling every week, every month. Using it to keep me motivated. I wish I could bottle up that feeling and give it to everyone who needs it. I had over 175 lbs to lose when I started out. I was facing a big, huge challenge. It felt impossible, I was too far gone, so I ignored it and made it worse. When I finally dove in and started seeing progress (little by little), my entire mindset changed. It wasn’t impossible. I had hope. Not because it was easy (because it really, really isn’t easy) but because I had faith in WW and in myself. The proof was in the progress. I tricked myself into thinking it was impossible for a long time…I found comfort in accepting myself just as I was. I’m glad I did – I jumped into this experience feeling confident and full of self love. BUT I wasn’t my best self. I wasn’t treating myself well. Now, I’m down 140 pounds. I’m 35 pounds away from my goal and I’m still chasing that feeling. That confidence that I am capable of doing this. That it’s not impossible. That it’s worth the hard work. It’s not easy, but it’s NOT impossible. ————- #ww #wwcommunity #wwfreestyle #wellnessthatworks #weightlosstransformation #weightlossjourney #weightloss #beforeandafter #beforeandafterweightloss #beforeandduring #beforeandduringweightloss #katcrew #katcrewslay #transformationtuesday

Erica says she now feels happier than ever in her slim 12 stone figure – and says she's learnt a lot about herself.

She added: "I don't wish that the process of losing weight had been faster or easier.

"I've learned so much about myself through this experience, and I continue to every day.

"This wouldn't have been possible if I woke up one day and I was magically at my goal.

"I've worked hard and believe the changes I've made will be long term and sustainable because of the time it's taken to get where I am.

£I also still have to remind myself that there's no finish line. There will not be a time when I'm 'done.'

"There won't be a time when I can go back to the habits I had before and maintain the progress I've made.

"This was a tough pill to swallow, but accepting this and embracing it has allowed me to see a level of sustainability and success I've never seen before."

Naeem Khan honors the legendary Zaha Hadid in sequin-filled show

Every show during NYFW is a celebration but for the Naeem Khan Spring 2020 show, it was a celebration of the life of the effervescent and revolutionary Zaha Hadid.

The September 10 show was scented by Diptyque’s 34 Collection and took place in and outside the lobby of the iconic 520 West 28th by Zaha Hadid in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood.

The sculptural, slinky and grand architecture of the space set the perfect stage for Khan’s stunning collection of eveningwear in all different silhouettes that played with intricate beading, see-through layering and wild animal prints.

Floor draping gowns in retro-floral prints met zebra print beaded pantsuits that moved with the Hadid building as models walked the runway in a collection that seeks to represent what Hadid herself represented to so many: liveliness, ingenuity and a whole lot of personality.

Headturners included a oversized, two piece set in sequined chartreuse, a sheer long-sleeved gown embroidered with white and coral flowers and a high-neck satin fuchsia gown.
