Body found in search for boy, 6, swept away in River Stour

A body has been found in the search for missing schoolboy Lucas Dobson, who was swept away in the River Stour at the weekend.

Hundreds of volunteers joined rescue workers after the six-year-old vanished at 1.20pm on Saturday.

This morning Kent Police confirmed the tragic find, and said Lucas' family are devastated.

The schoolboy was attempting to climb onto a boat while on a fishing trip when he fell in the water.

His dad Nathan and two other men jumped in, but the current was too strong.

Police have yet to confirm whether the body found is Lucas, but the family has been informed.

Chief Inspector Mark Weller of Kent Police said: "This is a deeply tragic and upsetting incident for all concerned, and Lucas’ family are understandably devastated.

"We were inundated with offers of assistance from members of the public, who turned out in large numbers to help search for Lucas. I know his family are very grateful and touched by the support provided, and I too would like to offer my own personal thanks.

"I would also like to recognise the efforts of our partners from Kent Fire and Rescue Service, HM Coastguard, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution and others who assisted in the search for Lucas."

In a statement Kent Police said: "The body has not yet been formally identified but the family of six-year-old Lucas Dobson, who fell into the water near Richborough Road at about 1.20pm on Saturday 17 August 2019, have been informed and are being supported by Kent Police officers."

The death is not being treated as suspicious.

Before the tragic discovery, Lucas’ aunt Maciee Stanford, 18, said: “He was with his dad and his dad’s friends along with other children.

“The incident happened because our Lucas was on the jetty and tried to step from there onto the boat but he fell in between the jetty and the boat (small gap).

“As soon as he fell the three adults jumped in after but the current was too strong he had already gone in the short amount of time he could not be found.

"The current was so strong the three men could barely swim in it.

“They fish and do this regularly as it is behind one of the men’s house all the children play together here.”

Hundreds of people joined efforts to find Lucas, but were yesterday asked to stay away as the operation focused on the river.

Kent's Search and Rescue service posted on Facebook: "Our thoughts are with Lucas’s family, friends and the whole community of Sandwich and Deal.

"We continue to be extremely thankful for all the support we have received during this difficult search."

Why Fans Should Be Hopeful After That ‘Pose’ Finale, According To Star Mj Rodriguez

Spoilers for Pose Season 2 finale ahead. Pose’s Season 2 finale was a roller-coaster ride of heartbreaking moments and triumphant revelations that hint at a hopeful future for the House of Evangelista. Angel and Papi made a leap in the fashion industry and got engaged, Damon is a house father and traveling the world and there are two new possible children who need Blanca’s Midas touch to improve their lives. Blanca’s future on Pose still feels uncertain with her career essentially ending after it led to a scary decline in her health, but actress Mj Rodriguez tells Bustle that her character has come to a new realization about motherhood that will help Blanca hold on to her trademark optimism during this new chapter in her life.

“When she was heartbroken [after Damon, Angel, and Papi leaving], she was dealing with what every mother eventually deals with her babies flying out of the nest and venturing out to find places on their own,” says Rodriguez via telephone prior to the finale’s release. “And, I think in this episode, she realized that her babies will come back and seek her help when they need it. When it comes to the younger kids, she knows that these kids don’t have the guidance that they need. These are new kids that are brimming with hope and a slew of possible talents and she sees that. She looks in these kids’ faces and sees what Damon and Angel had to go through…she sees their faces in these other kids. That entices her to push harder and fight.”

Blanca’s continued fight for both her children’s welfare and the community overall progression was what led her to stand up out of her wheelchair and triumphantly lip-synch Whitney Houston’s iconic version of "The Star-Spangled Banner." The national anthem has been a subject of discussion in recent years due to professional athletes, notably Colin Kapernick and Megan Rapinoe, acknowledging how the song’s lyrics about freedom don’t align with the social injustices faced by marginalized communities.

However, Rodriguez believes that Blanca connects with the song for several reasons, including her right to freedom and Whitney’s general influence on her community at the time.

“I think Blanca chose that song to not only stand firm in who she is within a country that was completely against her at that time, but she also wanted her community to know that they have the right to be alive and be who they are no matter what,” affirms Rodriguez. “She wanted to try her best to be a shining example of that. She’s very vocal and transparent and did that to show that she’s strong and to also pay homage to Whitney.”

Her triumphant return to the ballroom was a hopeful ending to the season, but what will happen to Blanca next. Only the writers and producers know the answer but, like most fans, Rodriguez really wants to see Blanca in better physical health, especially with underage kids under her wing, and a loving relationship. It’s not clear what happened to the sexy lifeguard from last summer’s girls’ trip, but hopefully her short-lived romance with him was just a precursor of what’s to come in Season 3. Sure, there’s always Angel and Papi, but MJ firmly believes that the more positive depictions of trans women’s romantic relationships there are on TV, the better.

“Not a lot of trans women’s love lives are seen through their own eyes,” states Rodriguez. “They are always seen through the lenses of someone else. Women like myself need to see themselves in full, actualized relationships…It’s only right to see Blanca where she has two kids, three grown kids who are almost like they are in college and doing their own thing, and a steady life with a man who is treating her right.”

Blanca’s future on Pose will certainly have its ups and downs as she navigates a world that wants to erase her existence and stigmatizes her due to her HIV positive status. But, her life is also filled with hope as she continues to provide a loving home for those who are lost and discarded and stand up for right to love, life, and liberty. She may be going through a rough patch now, but there’s no hurdle to high to keep Mother down.

Kristin Davis Finally Explained Charlotte's Sex and the City Turtleneck Look

When Charlotte York opted to swerve from her usual wardrobe of uptown preppy staples, Sex and the City viewers took notice. But until now, fans didn't have a way of questioning the characters' outfits or getting any answers. Thanks to Instagram account Every Outfit on SATC, which works to chronicle every outfit on the hit HBO series, and the cast's love of social media engagement, everyone can get some insight. That's exactly what happened when Kristin Davis commented on a screencap of Charlotte wearing a turtleneck, a definite move from her usual wardrobe. The account proposed that the fashion moment was one chance that the character took to dig into her art gallery roots, but Davis suggested something a little different.

"IS CHARLOTTE A CLOSET MINIMALIST? Because that is the only way that we can wrap our heads around a sleek, Jil Sander-esque look that is totally incongruous with the rest of her wardrobe. Not that we're complaining, it's genuinely refreshing to see Charlotte's art world side jump out. Art world people are obsessed with a monochromatic palette and a stark silhouette, presumably because they've been exposed to so much Richard Serra. Long live Minimalist Charlotte, you are truly the woman of our dreams."

US-ENTERTAINMENT-CINEMA-CATCH 22

Minimalist Charlotte may not have been a main character (and neither was fan favorite Atlantic City Charlotte), but her mood definitely stuck with fans. Davis explained that the look made her feel more like she was on a court procedural, not Sex and the City.

"My thoughts are either I was trying to pretend I was on Law + Order," Davis wrote on the post. She also offered up an alternative explanation for the uncharacteristically somber ensemble. "Or else Pat Field was sick that episode and just said 'wear whatever you want!'"

Sarah Jessica Parker has also used the account to explain some of the show's more out-there outfits. When Every Outfit on SATC posted a still featuring Carrie Bradshaw's mismatched Louboutins, she chimed in, writing, "We had 2 pairs of what I believe are @louboutinworld scrappy [sic] sandals. Pat and I chose to do 1 of each. Perhaps because both were so delicious in color and seemed in harmony with the dress but also because we simply loved doing 1 of each. Sending my best. And hope this is a satisfactory answer. Xxx."

Rest easy, SATC fans. Eventually, every burning question will be answered, including why none of the main characters noticed Justin Theroux playing two different characters.

Drug and op prices in US and UK shows how trade deal could end NHS as we know it

If there is one thing most Britons agree on it is the beloved NHS.

Free at the point of delivery healthcare for all.

It is the antithesis of America where citizens rely on insurance or end up in mountains of debt for something as simple as giving birth or even getting basic medication.

Leaving the EU without a deal would make the UK heavily reliant on a trade agreement with the US.

Campaigners say this desperation would put us in such a weak position we would have to make major concessions.

And the NHS, which spends £140billion annually, is the prize the US companies want.

A special Mirror report shows how extreme the price differences are between the UK and US.

Nasal allergy tablets Nasonex which cost £7.68 in the UK instead cost an eye-watering £224 to US patients.

Diazepam, used to treat anxiety, relaxation and muscle spasms, costs as little as 2p per tablet for the NHS.

American hospitals bill patients £3.05 a tablet. That's a price rise of 15,200%.

Viagra, £4 in the UK per tablet, is £61 in the US.

And Daraprim, used for HIV, cancer and malaria patients is £2.30 in the UK.

It costs £619 per tablet in the United States.

It's a similar story with operations like hip replacements, which cost the NHS £7,313 but in America patients can be billed up to £37,000.

On his state visit in June, Donald Trump said the NHS was “on the table” in US-UK negotiations, but he later rowed back on the comment after public uproar.

Sam Smith's Words of Wisdom Will Help You Through ''Heavy S–t''

Mike Marsland/WireImage

To use his own words, Sam Smith has dealt with “some really heavy s–t” throughout his life.

He’s experienced heartbreak, battled with his identity and struggled with body image. But today, he’s stronger than ever—and sharing the wise words he’s learned along his way.

“Looking back on a year and a half of therapy and what has been probably the most challenging time of my short 27 years here,” he captioned a lengthy Instagram post. “I’ve watched and read so much over the last 6 months to try and make sense of all the mess in my head. Tried to find ways to organise all of my problems so that they are bound and organised into folders and boxes, so that they will never haunt me or effect me again.”

But he quickly learned that’s not achievable. Rather, the Grammy winner turned to celebrated author Brene Brown and her words “I am enough” for guidance.

“I’m slowly starting to realise that the words above are the only words that really matter….and they are the words of the incredible @brenebrown …. ‘You are enough,'” he wrote to his 13 million followers. “That mess in your mind is not a mess. It is who you are. By constantly trying to change and seek perfection and a life of no pain only causes more pain I am realising.”

Still on course and learning but feeling the closest I’ve ever felt to a real space of Joy, gratitude and peace. Sorry to blab on. But I know we are all dealing with some really heavy shit at times. And I find listening to words from strangers comforting. So hopefully sometimes I can be that stranger to you guys. Now every morning and every night before you go to bed. Say these words to yourself in the mirror. I’m gonna do it to. We are in this together 🙏🏻 Hope you’re all having a gorgeous summer x

Mum still ill a year after holiday in TUI resort at centre of sickness outbreak

A mum-of-two who contracted a debilitating bug at a Mexican resort says she's still sick a year after she returned.

Rebecca Bass, 51, came down with cyclospora – an infection in the bowel caused by a parasite – while on a TUI holiday.

She said her illness continued even after returning to the UK from the holiday, which she booked with her partner to celebrate her 50th birthday.

Rebecca has now been diagnosed with the bug five times, and has been referred to a hospital's specialised tropical medicine unit.

She has issued legal proceedings against holiday company TUI, claiming neglegence.

She alleges TUI failed to properly warn holidaymakers about cyclsopora.

It has been claimed that nearly 600 Brits have been struck down with the bug since 2015 and 20 more cases have already been reported this year in the resorts of Cancun and next door Riviera Maya so far.

It is not known how many of these were TUI customers.

Health Protection Scotland are warning any Brits caught up in the outbreak to seek medical attention.

Cyclospora is linked to tainted food supplied to local hotels that has been contaminated by faeces and Brits travelling to the area are being warned to take extra care.

Rebecca Bass says she is sickened by news of the latest outbreak.

She said: "TUI have been appalling. They're not safeguarding their customers, they are just taking their money and that is wrong.

"If I had known there was a bug there I wouldn't have gone. We even asked the TUI shop before we booked if there was anything to worry about.

"But they showed us the warning screen and it didn't say anything about Cyclospora.

"But TUI knew that so they said nothing because otherwise people wouldn't go. And now it is still going on people need to know what they are flying into.

"I have lost a year of my life because of the illness and there is no end in sight.

"People need to know the risks and if they get ill they need to ask their GP for a Cyclsopora test."

The sickness bug is spread by infected human faeces contaminating water or food and previous outbreaks have been connected to salad products like mint, lettuce or basil and fresh soft fruits like raspberries.

Symptoms include frequent, watery diarrhoea, abdominal cramping, bloating, nausea, flatulence and loss of appetite.

Health Protection Scotland have warned Brit holidaymakers abut the outbreak and have urged anyone who feels sick to seek medical attention.

Council worker Rebecca and her partner Kevin splashed out on the 'holiday of a lifetime' for her 50th birthday last year at the Tui Sensimar Eldorado Seaside Suites and spa hotel in Riviera Maya but ended up living a nightmare.

Rebecca says at first they enjoyed the gourmet on site restaurants and she tried to stay healthy enjoying smoothies or fruit and salads.

She added: " I had all the herbs fresh fruit, veg, smoothies and salad with dinner.

"I thought I was in safe hands. But it turns out – every meal I had something which put me at risk."

ASOS branded ‘disgusting’ for labelling size 14 clothes as EXTRA LARGE

Shoppers brand ASOS ‘disgraceful’ for labelling size 14 clothes EXTRA LARGE – despite the average British woman being one size bigger

  • British shoppers have slammed ASOS for calling size 14 clothes extra large
  • It was first pointed out by British restaurant critic Marina O’Loughlin on Monday
  • Outraged customers were keen to comment on tweet, branding ASOS ‘jokers’

British shoppers have hit out at clothing brand ASOS for branding size 14 clothes as extra large – despite the average woman in the UK being a size 16.

The online-based fashion firm labels some of its available clothes using both numbered and lettered sizing.

And to the outrage of social media users, size 14 comes up as extra large, while large is a size 12 and small is a size 8.

The issue was first pointed out by British restaurant critic Marina O’Loughlin on Monday, who wrote on Twitter: ‘Dear ASOS- since when was a size 14 “XL”??’

Outraged customers were quick to comment on the tweet, which racked up hundreds of likes within hours.

One wrote: ‘A 12 is a large? F*** off, tell that to my 5ft 10 beautiful thin friend,’ as another said: ‘Utter jokers!!’

A third person added: ‘It’s a joke. I typed in XL on a website the other day and it offered me 12-14. F*** off. I’m not 10.’

‘Since we started believing that size 0 was an actual clothing size’, another said. ‘My favourite game is asking for a size 12 in the designer section of the likes of Selfridges and Harvey Nichols. They have no idea how to deal with his request.’

Today’s average British women are 5ft 5ins tall weigh 11st, have size six feet and dress size 16, according to recent studies.

Yet some insisted that the fashion company, which was founded in London, 19 years ago, was stuck in an impossible situation.

As one individual explained: ‘I am a size 4 in ASOS. It’s one of the only places I can buy clothes that fit me – should they make size 4/6 XXXS… that also is not a great message to send.

‘I don’t know what the answer is, but how they can win?’ she added.

Others felt the problem was not a new one as they claimed to have had to deal with such sizing issues for decades.

‘Since forever,’ a shopper replied. ‘As a size 16 from the age of 12 I was completely excluded from all the high street fashion shops of the 1980s. Spent my teenage years in a mix of homemade and M&S stuff.

She added: ‘So forgive me if I’m less than totally sympathetic!!’

Another woman echoed this: ‘Yup this is absolutely nothing new. I used to love all the surf-wear brands and they never went up past a 14 either. We’re talking at least 15 years ago. Yay for Matalan.’

FEMAIL has contacted ASOS for comment.

Man’s wife moved out after drunken train stunt that could have killed him

A dad has told how he gave up booze to save his marriage after sticking his head out of a train window in a drunken stunt that could have killed him.

Oil broker Ruari Fairbairns captured video of his foolish antics after a boozy day in the City in London, thinking the clip would have been perfect for his social media followers.

But when the 38-year-old returned home and showed the footage to his wife Jen, it proved to be the tipping point in their relationship.

Fed up with her husband's drinking, the former model, 40, bought a one-way ticket to her native Sweden and took their baby daughter with her, the Daily Record reports.

After Jen told him she had had enough of his bad behaviour, Ruari stopped drinking and teamed up with a pal to start a support movement called One Year No Beer.

The campaign helps members to quit alcohol and devote themselves to more positive things.

So far it has supported more than 40,000 members in 80 countries.

It's been five years since Ruari stuck his head out of the train window after a business lunch in the City spiralled into a six-hour booze fest.

Jen returned home with the couple's daughter, and the family now live in North Berwick, East Lothian, in Scotland.

They have decided to tell their story to help others to stop drinking.

Ruari said: “Lots of people take ridiculous risks and do crazy things because of alcohol.

“That day I’d had a long lunch which started at noon and finished at 6pm. I was absolutely smashed.

“The train was packed, so I pushed down the window and for some bizarre reason decided to film myself hanging out.

“I hate to think what could have happened if another train had been coming. Just a few months later I heard about a guy being decapitated after leaning out the window of a train.”

Before then, Ruari's drinking had caused a number of problems in his relationship.

Jen said: “What happened on the train was just one example of the bad judgement Ruari showed when he drank.

Teen alive and well after car landed on top of him

A teen in Williamsburg, Virginia was involved in a near-fatal car crash where the car landed on his body—and then his head.

According to CBN News, Juan Spence was on life support at MCV Hospital after having part of his skull removed due to swelling. Doctors gave Juan a 5 percent chance of living.

Even still, Juan’s mother and father, Elizabeth and Alex Butler, held onto faith that their son would pull through.

Elizabeth began praying to God as soon as she heard about the accident, CBN News reported.

Juan had been riding in his friend’s car near his school when the accident occurred. Without his seatbelt on, the teen was ejected from the car where it then rolled on top of him, the report stated.

Despite the odds, the Butlers told the doctor that God would determine what would happen to their son. The parents, who are both ministers, believed he would pull through.

Now over a year later, Juan can stand, walk, talk and even work out at local Williamsburg gym Frame Fitness. The gym has posted several videos of the teen performing workouts his doctors thought he’d never be able to do, including a weighted leg exercise.

Juan stated in the CBN News report that he knew God was fighting for Him. The crash had given him renewed faith. However, Juan likely had many physical and mental challenges to overcome after the accident. According to Aurora Health Care, even minor accident injuries can take weeks to heal.

Then, there’s the mental trauma that many people forget to account for. A traumatic accident can cause anxiety, depression and even post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) for accident victims.

The health clinic considers even a mild concussion to be a traumatic head injury, much less an injury involving direct contact with the car. About 7,000 people are involved in car accidents each day, states Aurora Health Care.

Thankfully, Juan was one of the lucky survivors of such a traumatic incident.
