Alesha Dixon’s estranged father says it’s ‘torture’ watching her on TV

Melvin Dixon, 66 has been estranged from Britain’s Got Talent judge Alesha Dixon for eight years.

And the retired service engineer has now admitted it is “torture” watching his daughter on TV.

Melvin also said he hopes to reunite with BGT star Alesha, 40, who is currently pregnant with her second child.

He commented: “It has been awful. It is torture seeing her on TV knowing she’s not part of my life any more.

“I went to a friend’s house and Britain’s Got Talent came on the TV — I had to leave the room.”

He continued telling The Sun On Sunday: “I was too upset and, if I think about her before I go to bed, I cannot sleep.”

The father-of-nine, who also claims to have never met Alesha’s five-year-old daughter Azura, went on to say he had a ‘huge lump’ in this throat when he recently discovered the TV star was pregnant.

Alesha, who is married to professional dancer Azuka Ononye, announced the news of her pregnancy on the opening night of the BGT 2019 finals.

He continued: “She didn’t even call me… I very much doubt I will see her new baby and I have never met my other granddaughter.”

Melvin split from Alesha’s mother Beverly Harris when the Mis-Teeq star was four.

He then enjoyed a new life with his partner Catherine and their three children Leyanne, 31, Jeroam, 27 and Callum, 22.

Alesha revealed she was not in contact with her father in an interview on Piers Morgan’s Life Stories back in 2014.

She said: “I don’t speak to my dad at the moment, no. I think it’s very difficult when you don’t have a dad that lives at home with you and they have a new family.

“It takes time to get that to work. Unfortunately for my dad and I, it didn’t really work, so there were times he would be in my life and things would be brilliant and then for some reason, I’m not even sure myself why, the relationship breaks down.”

Despite their lack of contact, Alesha said at the time she’s be open to reconciling.

She added: “I’m very open to [speaking to him again]. I’m not one of these people who hold a grudge [or] has any bad feeling towards him.

‘I just think that my relationship with my dad is very up and down and it always has been.”
