Brendan Grace: Father Ted actor dies aged 68 following lung cancer diagnosis

Brendan Grace’s family told RTE the actor and singer died peacefully and was grateful for the support he received from fans after announcing the news of his illness last week. Earlier this month, the Brendan Grace was diagnosed with cancer after being hospitalised for pneumonia. A spokesperson for the Irish comedian told the Irish Daily Mirror: “Brendan Grace has been in hospital for the last four weeks receiving treatment for pneumonia. “It has now transpired that he is also suffering from cancer for which he is receiving ongoing care and treatment.

“His family are a great support to him at this difficult time and respect for their privacy would be much appreciated.”

They also confirmed Brendan had cancelled his July and August tour.

The spokesperson said Brendan would be remaining in hospital for ongoing treatment.

Brendan was known for playing Father Stack in Father Ted.

He also appeared in Backyard Ashes and Moondance.

In a 2018 documentary about his life, Brendan Grace: Funny Man, he spoke about suffering with his health in recent years, revealing he had had a stroke and lost some of his toes due to gangrene caused by diabetes.
