Desperate times call for desperate measures and for Claudia Winkleman, 48, this meant calling on her 14-year-old daughter to help cover the Strictly Come Dancing host’s body head to toe in fake tan. But the improvised beauty regime came at a cost. In a recent interview, Claudia recalled how lockdown had taken its toll on her usual self-care routine, admitting she “went feral”.

At one point, I bribed my daughter to fake tan me and were were laughing so hard I ended up looking like a zebra for four days!

“At one point, I bribed my daughter to fake tan me and were were laughing so hard I ended up looking like a zebra for four days,” she giggled.

But her DIY tricks didn’t stop there.

“I also tried to do my eyebrows and that didn’t go too well,” the BBC star admitted.

“I sort of looked like an eagle, it was just one big black line!”

She added: “Luckily, it was under my fringe so nobody saw.”

But how did Claudia’s infamous lengthy bangs survive the four month lockdown?

Unfortunately, it went quite like the rest of her beauty regime… not good.

“It did get very Cousin Itt,” she told OK! magazine, referring to the long haired fictional character in the Addams Family series.

“My hairdresser had to talk me through cutting it on Zoom.”

But it’s safe to say that Claudia won’t be doing that again anytime soon.

“I wasn’t very good…” she sighed before revealing she had also tried to cut her children’s locks before her husband Kris Thykier was forced to take over.

But with Prime Minister Boris Johnson giving the nation a little bit of a warning before the upcoming second lockdown is imposed, it left millions of us frantically rushing to get our mops chopped to avoid looking, as Claudia puts it, “feral” once again.

Elsewhere, the telly presenter left Strictly contestant HRVY in tears, after she unleashed a surprise on Saturday night.

As he and pro partner Janette Manrara joined her backstage after their performance, the BBC host kicked off their chat: “You don’t recognise yourself, do you?

“You’re watching that going, ‘Who is that?’” she added, prompting HRVY to say: “Yeah, I don’t recognise him – but I quite like him!”

She then revealed: “I know every Saturday, you come off the dance floor and you call your nan, Joyce, don’t you?”

With emotions beginning to build, Harvey replied: “Oh, yeah – shout out to Joyce. I love you.”

“Shout out to Joyce,” Claudia echoed before giving HRVY a little surprise message from his biggest fan.

No way,” HRVY shouted as Joyce popped up on-screen with some well wishes for her grandson.

Joyce said: “Hi Harv. Hi Janette. I’m really looking forward to your dance this week.

“You’ve made us all so proud, I can’t wait to see you Saturday night on the telly, we’ll all be voting for you. Good luck. Love you lots. Nan,” she signed off and HRVY couldn’t hold back the tears.

Dabbing his eyes, he tried to regain his composure before Janette gave him a supportive hug.

“I’m sorry,” Claudia said after watching HRVY cry. “We didn’t mean to make you sad.”

However, HRVY reassured the Strictly host all was okay before adding: “Sorry, I can’t speak.”

Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday at 8pm on BBC One.
