Countdowns Rachel Riley on Anne Robinson fall out: She’s very matter of fact

It was recently reported there are tensions between Rachel Riley and Anne Robinson on Countdown after the Watchdog presenter stepped in to host the show earlier this year.

Sources claim there is an “awkward and uncomfortable atmosphere” between Rachel, 35, and Susie Dent, 56, with Anne, 77, on-set.

Rachel has now addressed the feud between them on the show, telling OK! how she has been getting on working with Anne since she joined the Channel 4 gameshow's family.

"She found her feet very quickly and soon made the show her own," the mum of one said. "She’s comfortable bantering with the contestants.

"She asks them a lot of questions and we get to hear from them a lot more."

Rachel – who is a mum of two to Maven and her newborn baby Noa with husband Pasha – added: "She’s called out some comedians and you can tell they’re up for a fight. They come in with their lines prepared. She’s not known for suffering fools gladly."

When asked if she is "more cuddly" off-screen, the star replied: "I don’t think anyone would describe Anne as cuddly.

"She’s very matter-of-fact. To be honest though, due to the pandemic we haven’t been able to socialise like we normally would."

Rachel then revealed they have time apart while preparing on the show as she shared: "We get ready for the show in separate rooms."

The feud reportedly erupted after Anne "switched off" Rachel's microphone while filming as she was being "too loud" while chatting with other contestants.

It has also been reported that Anne felt frustrated at Rachel turning up at the last minute to film for the show and constantly being on her phone.

The Sun reported that Rachel was "furious" when Anne turned off her microphone and was said to have told the rest of the crew that she "completely disagreed" with being silenced.

When the tension between the stars was first reported, a source told the Mail: "Rachel and Susie don’t care much for Anne and her rather grand ways and things have become pretty uncomfortable.

“Anne likes to do things her way, while Rachel doesn’t go along with how she operates. This has now led to little social interaction between them away from the cameras.”

OK! previously contacted Rachel, Anne and Susie's representatives for comment.

And now that Rachel has welcomed her second child with husband Pasha Kovalev, it is believed their feud could heat up a bit more with the maths queen planning on "breastfeeding her newborn on set".

"When you have a newborn, and especially when you have a toddler as well, you don't have time for a shower," Rachel told The Sun.

"So when I get back to work someone will be paid to do my hair and make-up. You don't recognise yourself the first time you go back because you've just been in mum mode and haven't washed your hair for a while."
