Curtis Pritchard reveals he’s lost a stone in six months after being body-shamed on Love Island

Love Island star Curtis Pritchard has shed a stone in six months after joining Weight Watchers, saying he now eats more than he ever has.

The reality TV star signed up to be the face of the diet program last year and has now opened up on his body transformation, revealing how he was previously body-shamed after leaving the villa last year.

Curtis, 23, spoke at the WW Supper Club as he opened up on his weight loss journey.

He explained: “With the career I chose, in dancing, I’ve always had lots of pressure to look a certain way.

“I felt like I had to crash diet, even lose two stone in a month, but it only had a negative impact on me mentally. I never felt good and it made me realise I wanted to change my relationship with food.”

He continued: “Being on WW has made me stop thinking about food, yet I’m eating more than I’ve ever eaten in my entire life!

“If I want a pizza I can still have it. I can eat and do whatever I want, in moderation, and I feel like I’m playing the long game now with the weight slowly but surely coming off. It’s perfect for my lifestyle where I’m constantly on the move.”

Curtis’ mum Debi, who was with him at the event, added: “Just looking at Curtis now actually wells me up a little bit.

“He always put the pressure on himself because he’s wanted to achieve to the best of his ability; in the field he chose his audience expect him to look a certain way so he’d try his hardest to eat a little amount so that everyone was proud of him.

“Jumping to Love Island, he had a great time, but coming out he felt uncomfortable because of the body-shaming he experienced. He’s now found a good mental state about food thanks to joining the WW family.”

Curtis also revealed he was shamed about his appearance after appearing on Love Island last year, where he met his now-girlfriend Maura Higgins.

“I think being in the public eye you open yourself up to more situations that are both negative and positive. My coping mechanism has always been to try not to read the negative comments or articles and if I do see something negative to just look past it.

He added: “Since Love Island, I’ve always been asked if I’m doing this to prove the people that body-shamed me wrong, but you just have to think I’m being selfish and doing this for myself; it should never ever be about proving anything to other people or living up to others’ expectations.”
