Dick Strawbridge, 61, spoke candidly about meeting his wife Angel Adoree, 43, as the Channel 4 star discussed the family’s home in France. The dad-of-four revealed that his other half sometimes refuses to “compromise” when it comes to the design of their abode.

Speaking in an unearthed interview, Dick addressed the couple’s first meeting as the engineer was quizzed about the programme Escape to the Chateau.

Dick confirmed that the couple, who tied the knot in 2015, do sometimes go back and forth over the decisions about their property.

It comes as he also confessed the pair often exercise a veto when it comes to making changes to their chateau.

Speaking with host Carl Marsh on his show, In The Words Of, the Channel 4 star opened up about his home life.

Addressing the couple’s first meeting, Dick said: “I was divorced. Me and Angel briefly met at a friend’s birthday party and not long after we went out together for an evening and we haven’t been apart since.”

Carl commented: “It’s a proper love story between you two and you can see the chemistry on the TV.”

Dick continued: “One of the things that people won’t talk about and it’s all a bit wrong is we talk about passion.

“Passion that’s what life’s about. We have really good arguments. But we’re also fuelled by energy and love.

“With passion, you’ve got to care. There’s nothing worse than when people go through a lifetime of being mediocre and being gentle and not caring enough.”

He added: “I think the one thing that we do have is that we have a lot of positive things going on between us and that to me is what life is about.

Carl questioned further if the pair ever row over changes being made to their family chateau.

Dick replied: “Oh yes, of course we do. Angel doesn’t do compromise in any way shape or form.

“As a designer you can’t afford to and as an artist you can’t otherwise you end up being mediocre. She’s very good at what she does and with her vision she pushes it through.”

He went on: “But when it comes to the Chateau, we both have a veto. Things that I say, ‘No’ to I mean no and when she says, ‘No’ to things it means no.

“But we have to meet in the middle if it’s something we both want to do. It’s important to have that balance.”

Viewers have been enthralled with Dick and Angel’s journey after the couple purchased their 18th-century chateau in 2015, and have been renovating it as part of their show ever since.

The castle, based in Pays de la Loire, near Nantes, has an enormous 45 rooms for their young family to enjoy.

The married couple share two children together; eight-year-old Arthur and seven-year-old Dorothy.

Dick is a father-of-four having had two children from his first marriage to Brigit Strawbridge.

During their marriage, the former couple welcomed son James, now 37, and daughter Charlotte, 35, together.
