Eamonn Holmes, 61, and Ruth Langsford, 60, have returned to This Morning for the half-term break. It comes after the presenting duo were dropped from their Friday slot on the daytime show and replaced by Alison Hammond, 46, and Dermot O’Leary, 47.

Returning to screen today, Eamonn was accused of “body shaming” his other half during the It’s Behind You segment – where a viewer phones into the show and describes what’s behind the hosts, who then try to guess the correct answer.

The latest caller began by describing a photo of Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge.

The viewer said: “She’s very thin,” and “she’s married to…” before their time ran out.

Eamonn turned to Ruth when he heard “thin” and cheekily commented: “She’s very thin, well it’s not you darling.”

Ruth seemingly ignored her husband’s jibe and correctly guessed it was Prince William’s wife in the picture.

Eamonn added: “He wouldn’t say she was very thin and married to Eamonn Holmes, would he! No, he wouldn’t have done that!”

Following his comment, viewers took to social media and vented their frustrations, as one viewer remarked: “Imagine body shaming your wife on national telly.”

Another social media user quizzed: “Is it just me or did Eamonn just call Ruth fat on This Morning?”

“Not particularly great entertainment fat shaming your wife on TV Eamonn,” a third added.

Another unimpressed viewer said: “I understand joking around with your other half but again with the ‘fat jibes’ being thrown at the wife again.”

Others came to Eamonn’s defence, as one viewer tweeted: “It’s banter that they just have between each other.”

Another echoed a similar sentiment, saying: “It was not a cruel jibe.”

The couple has since resumed their duties on This Morning and have taken over from Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield for half-term week.

Kicking off the show, Eamonn said: “Good morning it’s Eamonn and Ruth on your screens right until Friday.”

Ruth – who has been married to her co-host since 2010 following a 13-year relationship – added: “It certainly is and it’s lovely to see you all.”

Fans of the duo were delighted to have them back in the ITV studios, as people flocked to social media.

“How amazing is it to have @EamonnHolmes and @RuthieeL back! A much better start to the morning! I was actually excited to get out of bed this morning just to watch @thismorning #bringbackeamonnandruth,” one tweeted.

Another remarked: “Great to see Eamonn & Ruthie back #ThisMorning.”

While a third added: “Normal service has been resumed #ThisMorning.”

A fourth shared: “Great to see Eamonn & Ruthie back #ThisMorning.”

This was the first time the pair have returned to present the ITV show since being replaced by Alison and Dermot.

This Morning airs weekdays on ITV at 10am.
