Fans of This Morning host Holly Willoughby, 40, have shared a theory which they believe explains the star’s absence from the ITV show recently. After Holly posted a snap hinting at a secret project, social media users quickly put her absence down to an invitation which was extended to her live on This Morning last month for the host to star in thrilling crime drama series, Midsomer Murders.

Days ago the TV personality took to Instagram to share a personal snap with her 7.1million fans.

It featured her son Chester clambering on her back as she grinned into the camera.

Holly was working hard on her upcoming project with a cup of tea, notepad, and pen in front of her.

She captioned the post: “Vitamin d, caffeine and a side order of distraction from Chester… working on something else next week which I can’t wait to share with you all….” (sic)

The TV host went on to thank her stand-in presenter, The Saturday’s band member Rochelle Humes, for filling in for her alongside Philip Schofield.

She continued: “Thank you to the lovely @rochellehumes for keeping my side of the sofa warm… x”

Despite not giving any hints away as to what her secret project could be, fans took to the comments to give their thoughts on what the star may be keeping under wraps.

Remembering an episode of the morning show last month, one fan wrote: “Thinking it could be midsummers TV drama.” (sic)

“I remember them asking you to join them on the drama and they would see what they could arrange.

They added: “This was a few weeks ago when you and Phil were chatting to a couple cast members one morning on your show.

“Good luck whatever it is.”

Holly was offered a cameo appearance in the ITV crime show by stars Neil Dudgeon and Nick Hendrix last month.

Addressing the ITV host, Neil said: “We’ve all had a big talk about who we want to appear on Midsomer, and we decided we want Holly Willoughby to appear in an episode of Midsomer Murders very soon.

“I’ve been speaking to people upstairs and they’ve been speaking to your people.

“Holly please, I am emboldened here to offer you a role in Midsomer Murders.”

After enthusiastically accepting the role and shouting a celebratory “Yes!”, Holly asked: “Are you serious?”

However, despite her excitement over the offer, the TV star went on to doubt her acting abilities in the ITV favourite drama.

“I mean, you’re going to have to kill me off really quickly as I’m terrible at acting.”

After the actors reassured the star that her role would entail either being murdered or being the killer, Holly detailed her chosen way to be killed off from the show.

“‘Can I die by eating chocolate?” she asked. “Because I saw an episode where somebody died by eating chocolate and I was like, ‘that’s the way to go’.”
