Piers Morgan, 56, has added fuel to the fire in his Gary Lineker, 60, feud. The outspoken journalist and former Good Morning Britain host has said that he believes that he would make a great replacement for Gary on BBC’s Match of the Day.

So, I’m just as qualified.

A betting tips agency, named OLBG tweeted with figures who could eventually replace Gary on the hit football show.

OLBG said: “Who could eventually replace @GaryLineker on Match of the Day?

“@piersmorgan 400/1 outsider..”

Piers, having seen the tweet, hastily replied with why he would make a great replacement.

He said: “Well, a) I’m a lot younger and b) We’ve both won the same number of 1st Division, Premier League, & European club titles + same number of European Championships and World Cups. (sic)

“So, I’m just as qualified.”

Fans were quick to comment on what they thought of Piers on Match of the Day.

CompareRad said: “Ha Ha, however the sadly missed legend that was #BrianMoore started out as a journalist, notably with The Times and went on to present ‘On the Ball’ and the ‘Big Match’ with much acclaim! (sic)

“I might have a fiver on you at 400/1.”

Steve49London said: “This isn’t quite so crazy, presenters definitely not ex-footballers, I’d like to see Piers given a go.” (sic)

Some of Piers’ followers were not so keen on the idea, however.

Chris_Chapman61 said: “How many top flight appearances have you made? How many top flight goals have you scored?

“Asking for a friend.”

Iancoates1963 added: “@GaryLinker knows about football, you support Arsenal, case rested.”

Gary has presented on Match of the Day since 1999, having previously operated as a pundit on the show.

He is the highest earner at the BBC and has a reported net worth of around £30 million.

Through the years Piers and Gary have butted heads on several different occasions, due to the pair being very vocal in their opinions.

At the beginning of this month, Gary mocked Piers over his furious comments over the potential of a female James Bond.

Piers tweeted: “James Bond is the last real man standing in Hollywood and if the woke warriors dare make him a woman I’m going to campaign for Wonder Woman to be a man.”

Gary responded: “Spoiler: He’s not a real man.”
