Kerry Katona’s troubled ex-husband George Kay dead after drug overdose at 39

Kerry Katona’s troubled ex husband George Kay has died of a drug overdose at the age of 39.

George, the father of Kerry’s youngest daughter Dylan-Jorge, five, was pronounced dead on arrival to hospital yesterday.

He had a long history of drug abuse and had battled mental health issues during their chaotic relationship.

A source close to Kerry, 38, said the mum-of-five is “heartbroken”.

Kerry gave birth to their daughter, affectionately known as DJ, in April 2014 and the pair wed that September.

But they divorced in 2017 and Kerry later admitted George was violent towards her during the relationship.

There was a restraining order keeping George away from Kerry that was still in place when he died – he had not seen his daughter DJ for over a year.

A close family friend of Kerry last night said: “Kerry was told this afternoon that George suffered an overdose and was taken to hospital, but was declared dead on arrival.

“No one yet knows what he overdosed on or whether it was intentional or an accident.

“Kerry is heartbroken, he’s DJ’s dad and she loved him once.

“She can’t bear the thought of explaining to her daughter what has happened.”

Kerry was in London with new boyfriend Ryan Mahoney when she was called and told the news while working.

The friend said: “She’s devastated. Kerry loved George once and, while she’s not had contact with him for a long time, it is a huge shock.

“Her younger kids, Max and Heidi, who she had with Mark Croft, loved George too and called him dad.

“She has no idea what to tell them.”
