Maisie Smith fans left confused over bizarre wardrobe blunder as she enjoys NYC break

Maisie Smith and Max George jetted off to New York to ring in the new year, but after the star posted holiday snaps on Instagram, many of the EastEnders actress's 1 million followers were left rather confused by her choice of shoes.

The couple flew to New York after spending Christmas in Essex with Maisie's family, and since landing, they appear to be unable to keep their hands off one another.

Sharing a compilation of photos from her trip, Maisie, 21, penned the short caption: "live laugh love."

The snaps showed the Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins star sporting a long beige coat with a fur trim, brown trousers and a pair of stylish black sunglasses.

But it was her shoes that drew fans' attention, with the pair seeming to be two different shades of brown, prompting fans to ask why she had worn and off pair.

One asked: "Have you got odd shoes on?? it’s really stressing me out not knowing [laughing emoji]", while a second commented: "Are you wearing odd shoes?"

Another commenter wrote: "Have you got odd shoes on [laughing emoji] love the coat! Looks amazing! Happy new year!"

A fourth seemed to solve the mystery though, explaining: "Guys they’re not odd shoes, they look like the Travis Scott Air 1s basically there’s a waterproof cover on them that you can take on and off. So on one shoe it’s on and the others off."

The trip to New York marks the couple's sixth holiday together, just months after making their relationship public.

Max and Maisie often post loved-up snaps on social media and just last month, Max, 34, hit back at critics who deem the relationship “controversial” because of the 13-year age difference.

"I’ve just read that apparently mine and Maisie’s age gap is ‘controversial’… a woman in her 20’s and a man in his 30’s… what the f**k are they implying?" he wrote.

"I’d love an explanation please DM," he added.

Most fans supported the singer, as one replied: "I can never understand why people are so bothered by what others do if it doesn't affect them!?"

"You are both adults! People have little to worry about if this is 'controversial'!" another wrote.

However, there was still some criticism toward the singer, with one writing: "A woman in her 20s, and a man in his 30s sounds like y'all are close in age.

"You are 34 and she is 21. There are worse age gaps, but what makes it controversial is y'all are in two different places developmentally. Then again, rich people lead different lives."
