Prince William apparently can’t believe ‘The Crown’ would dredge up the past…??

Piers Morgan had a predictable hissy fit about The Crown Season 4. I wouldn’t even give him any air, but I actually read his whole diatribe and I found a couple of sections kind of interesting. Piers actually complimented the season and said that it was a great drama, although he (of course) nitpicked the historical accuracy. The monarchy and the royal commentariat really think they’re doing “death by a thousand paper cuts” on a prestige Netflix series, when all they’re doing is promoting it and getting more people to watch it. But! Piers explicitly quotes a “royal source” close to Prince William about the series, which is the closest I’ve seen to any comment from Kensington Palace. Thus far, it’s just been Buckingham Palace and Clarence House doing damage control on how they mistreated Diana. Piers also makes a completely convoluted argument about Prince Harry, which I’m including too:

The royals are incandescent?? Little wonder the Royals are said to be incandescent over it. Prince William, in particular, is reported to be enraged at the way his parents are being ‘exploited’ and ‘presented in a false, simplistic way to make money.’ A royal source close to him told the papers: ‘In this case, it’s dragging up things that happened during very difficult times 25 or 30 years ago without a thought for anyone’s feelings. That isn’t right or fair, particularly when so many of the things being depicted don’t represent the truth.’

Harry doesn’t seem to share William’s view: In fact, far from being outraged by Netflix making a fortune by rubbishing the royals like this, Harry’s response has been to join his wife Meghan in striking their own massive multi-million-dollar deal with them. By doing so, Harry is literally accepting money made from humiliating his own family, especially his own mother whose experience with the press he constantly holds up to demand greater deference for his wife Meghan. And now, as a storm of controversy grows over this appallingly hypocritical decision, he’s shut his eyes, stuck his hands over his ears, and buried himself into the sands of Santa Barbara in the desperate hope nobody will notice the astoundingly two-faced nature of his behaviour….If Harry had any integrity left, he’d tear up his Netflix deal right now and apologise to his family for colluding with the enemy in such a distasteful manner. But he won’t.

[From The Daily Mail]

The quote from a source close to William is so ridiculous, I actually believe it *did* come from William! “How dare Netflix make a popular, acclaimed, award-winning series about my family of public figures, WHAT ABOUT MY FEELINGS.” As for what Piers says about Harry… “Harry is literally accepting money made from humiliating his own family…” Piers literally makes HIS money from humiliating and smearing members of the royal family, so what’s his point? That’s the thing I don’t get about the royal commentators all having hissy fits about The Crown – Peter Morgan is merely dramatizing the same stories and narratives which have been driving the royal press pack for decades. It’s insane.
