Nicola Adams and Katya Jones have appeared to confirm they have become Strictly Come Dancing’s first celebrity same-sex pairing.

The 37 year old Olympic boxer was reportedly spotted leaving a “secret” filming location with Katya, 31, on Tuesday 6 October.

In snaps obtained by Mail Online, Nicole and Katya were seen smiling widely as they left a building in London.

Professional boxer Nicola wore a green hoodie with a black, sleeveless puffer jacket.

Meanwhile, Katya looked autumnal with a blue and red scarf wrapped around her neck as she wore a grey jacket.

Nicola and professional dancer Katya’s pairing has not yet officially been confirmed, but the sighting reportedly appeared to show the pair meeting to film their first encounter before Strictly launches later this month.

It comes after Nicola was announced as the first celebrity who will be paired with a professional dancer of the same sex on the show a few weeks ago.

As it was revealed the Olympic gold medalist would be taking part in this year’s series, Nicola told of how she agreed to take part on the condition she would be dancing with another woman.

She revealed: “They wanted to know if I wanted to be on the show and I said, ‘Yeah, I'll do it, but I want to dance with another female’.”

She added: “It's really important, and it’s a big step for the show as well.

“It's nice to see that we're able to move on. I just can't wait to get some dancing done.”

Speaking about why Nicola felt it was important to dance with a woman on the BBC One series, she told The Guardian: “I guess it’s just breaking those boundaries and showing people that it’s OK.

“It’s not such an uncommon thing: professional dancers dance with people of the same sex all the time; you dance in a nightclub with your friends. I just wanted to break down the thing of it being a big deal when it’s not really a big deal.”

She revealed the reaction to the announcement was “really positive” and added: “Which is good to see. I guess it shows that everybody’s mentally evolving and in a place where they’re a lot more open-minded.”

Meanwhile Katya, who split from Neil Jones last year, previously revealed she would like to be paired with someone of the same sex on the series.

Earlier this year, Katya said: “I would love to dance with a woman on the show.

“I think, creatively, it would be really interesting and I love coming up with new ideas for stuff.”

Shortly after announcing their decision to have a same-sex pairing on the show, the BBC released a statement to support the move.

It read: “Strictly Come Dancing is an inclusive show and is proud to have featured same sex dancing amongst the professional dancers in group numbers in previous series.

“We have stated, in the past, that we are open to the prospect of including same sex pairings between our celebrities and professional dancers, should the opportunity arise.

“Nicola Adams requested an all-female pairing, which we are happy to facilitate. The show is first and foremost about dance, the sex of each partner within a coupling should have no bearing on their routine.”
