Kate Middleton spoke volumes by using blue dress to convey serious message, expert says

Kate Middleton is famous for her enviable wardrobe full of gorgeous dresses from high-end to high street favourites.

The trendsetting Duchess stepped up to support Prince William at royal engagements after the Queen was forced to rest and undergo “preliminary tests” in hospital.

Kate wore a striking blue blazer-style dress as she hosted an Earthshot Prize reception with William in Glasgow on Monday November 1.

But it wasn’t just a pretty outfit – her dress shared a serious message.

According to modern colour theorist Momtaz Begum-Hossain, the Duchess was speaking volumes through her style.

She told OK!: “Blue is the colour of communication, so it helps us relate to people around us, and it helps us listen better, focus and gives us confidence.”

According to Ms Begum-Hossain – author of Hello Rainbow: Brighten Up Your Life and Mind with Color Therapy – the colour blue is inoffensive and Kate’s dress was the perfect choice for a serious climate change event.

It’s not the first time the Duchess has worn blue in public.

During a royal tour of India in 2016, Kate wore a stunning Jenny Packham gown for the same reason.

Then in 2020, during the first lockdown, she wore a blue Ghost dress to support the NHS.

“She obviously chose this to show respect to NHS workers,” added Ms Begum Hossain.

“This shows her caring side. Royal blue can be very glamorous, but other shades like this are less distracting, so it’s not all about her.

“This shows modesty. There’s a sense of calm about it too in a time of real anxiety. She was helping to reassure the nation.”

The blue hue of Kate’s dress in Glasgow is sure to reassure the Queen of her ability to represent the crown.

According to royal expert Ingrid Seward, Her Majesty has every confidence in the Cambridges.

She told Woman: “I think [Her Majesty] feels the future of the monarchy is in safe hands now with William and Kate.”

It’s not just blue hues Kate uses to send subtle messages in public.

According to Ms Begum-Hossain, every colour releases a different energy which affects our own feelings and the mood of those we’re with.

“Each colour is constantly radiating its own specific energy,” she explains.

In the past, Kate’s outfits have included red for confidence and pink for comfort, green for relaxation and yellow for positive vibes – there’s no message she can’t share through colour!
