Everyone knows experiences-based gifts make the best gifts.Prince Williamdid not disappoint this Christmas, treatingKateto a ‘Bond girl’ weekend with a top-of-the-range Aston Martin test driveahead of her 41st birthday .
The iconic spy character's favourite brand of car, the Prince of Wales, 40, took the Welsh-built Aston Martin DBX707 for a spin around the lanes near Sandringham House over the festive period. James Bond has driven four different Aston-Martins in the movie franchise but the 193mph DBX707 has yet to feature.
As well as being James Bond-approved, the car, which is the world’s fastest SUV, also has sentimental value as it is the same make as the vintage car that the pair drove off in after their 2011 wedding.
The £189,000 luxury SUV is the first Welsh-built production car in more than 50 years and one of thousands rolling off the production line at the four-year old factory in South Wales. The 90-acre factory – which has resulted in hundreds of new jobs being created – was opened by the now-King in February 2020.
An insider said toThe Sun: “The delivery of the car was an operation worthy of the secret service in itself. It was very hush-hush.
“But he was spotted behind the wheel buzzing round the tight and winding country lanes of North Norfolk.
“It is not a coincidence the car was one that was built in Wales by Welsh workers.
“William had the Aston for the whole weekend. He got to experience life like James Bond for a few days.
“The only difference is, unlike 007, William had to hand the car back at the end of the weekend.”
James Bond producer Barbara Broccoli even joked that Prince William was the “perfect candidate” to take over the iconic role from actor Daniel Craig.
When William presented Barbara with her CBE in July, she was asked who was likely to take over the role as the next Bond, and said: “Unfortunately, the person we just met isn’t available. He’s occupied, unfortunately, but he would be the perfect candidate.
The film producer added: “He ticks all the boxes. But he’s not available, sadly. So we’re still on the hunt.”
In the run-up to Kate Middleton’s birthday, it’s likely that the pair would have welcomed the fun distraction as the entire Royal Family holds their breath asPrince Harryconducts several interviews prior to the publication of his book.
The release date of Harry's upcoming memoir, Spare, comes just one day after his sister-in-law’s birthday on 9 January.
According to sources, the book will be highly critical of the Prince and Princess of Wales, but "kinder" King Charles than previously thought.
