Meghan Markle Brought a Piece of Princess Diana to Oprah Winfrey Interview Through 1 Jewelry Item

Meghan, Duchess of Sussex’s bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey is on everyone’s mind these days, with more questions than ever swirling in the headlines. As reporters and journalists dissect everything from the couples’ body language in the interview to the specifics of Meghan’s relationships with Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge and Queen Elizabeth, some are looking to the more meaningful moments in the interview for inspiration. Most notably, there are several ways that fans have connected Princess Diana to Meghan’s interview, including the sweet way that Markle paid tribute to her late mother-in-law with a piece of jewelry.

Meghan Markle made major revelations in her interview with Oprah Winfrey

Meghan and Prince Harry’s interview with media mogul Oprah Winfrey was a highly-anticipated event, one that was watched by viewers all over the United States and reported on by journalists all around the world. The interview didn’t disappoint, with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex opening up on a wide variety of topics — everything from how Meghan seemed to be thrown into life as a royal without any prior preparation to the way that the royal family seemed to allow the mistreatment of Meghan by the British tabloid press to continue.

There’s no doubt that the couple made some stunning claims in the interview. Fans around the world are slamming the royal family for their purported treatment of Meghan, and the conversation is only likely to continue in the coming days and weeks.

Still, some fans are looking to lighter fare in the wake of the bombshell interview, pointing to Meghan’s stylish outfit and unique accessory as proof of her intimate connection with the late Princess Diana.

Meghan Markle’s stunning interview look

For her interview with Oprah, which was taped early in the spring of 2021, the former senior royal pulled out all the fashion stops. In the interview, Meghan can be seen rocking a stunning black dress by Giorgio Armani, which was adorned with a white lotus flower — a symbol of rebirth, as some sources have pointed out. In addition to the black dress, which reportedly cost around $4,700, was accessorized with black high heels and simple, glowing makeup.

However, it was Meghan’s jewelry that drew the most attention. In her chat with Winfrey, Markle can be seen wearing a diamond bracelet that once belonged to Prince Harry’s mother, the late Princess Diana.

It is the same bracelet that Prince Harry had crafted Meghan’s engagement ring from, removing two stones from the bracelet and working with a jeweler to craft the stunning ring. Furthermore, Princess Diana wore the bracelet on multiple occasions, only serving to cement the connection between Meghan and her late mother-in-law.

What did Meghan Markle and Prince Harry say about Princess Diana?

Meghan and Prince Harry referenced Princess Diana several times during their high-profile Oprah interview.

“My biggest concern was history repeating itself. And I’ve said that before, on numerous occasions, very publicly,” Prince Harry said. “What I was seeing was history repeating itself. More perhaps, or far more dangerously, because then you add race in, and social media in. And when I’m talking about history repeating itself, I’m talking about my mother.”

He also said: “Touching back on when you asked me what my mom would think of this, I think she saw it coming. And I felt her presence throughout this whole process. For me, I’m just really relieved and happy to be sitting here with you, with my wife by my side, because I can’t begin to imagine what it must’ve been like for her to go through this process by herself all those years ago.”

Not only did Prince Harry compare Meghan’s experience with the British tabloids to Princess Diana’s own experience, but he revealed that the couple is currently living in the United States thanks to the inheritance that his mother left him when she died.

The Winfrey interview isn’t the first time that Prince Harry has slammed the British press by indirectly referencing his mother’s demise. In 2019, he released a rare statement, saying “I’ve seen what happens when someone I love is commoditized to the point that they are no longer treated or seen as a real person. I lost my mother and now I watch my wife falling victim to the same powerful forces.”

Clearly, Prince Harry and Meghan are ready to take on the world — and the monarchy — with the memory of Princess Diana fueling their actions.
