Pretty Little Liars’ Shay Mitchell swaps trademark dark hair for an autumnal auburn shade

If you’ve entered into your autumn/winter evening hibernation, it’s likely you’re making it through all seven seasons of Pretty Little Liars on Netflix. Fans of the show will know Shay Mitchell as Emily Fields, a raven-haired high-school beauty. Now, in a move away from the look she wore while filming the show, Shay has just unveiled a red hot hair makeover.

Swapping her glossy black hair for a warm coppery shade that’s perfect for autumn, Shay delights her followers by sharing the look on her Instagram grid and stories. She originally took to her page to ask fans whether she should go red or platinum for the new season, and then went on to share the results of the poll which showed 69% of people voted for red.

Shay took the plunge and dyed her tresses the warm shade with the help of her hairstylistJesus Guerrero, who she calls incredibly talented in one of her short Story videos.

“Iconic, makes me want to go red,” comments one fan under a grid post of Shay showing off the new hair colour at a Fendi Fashion Week show.

“Red suits you so much!” says another, while a third adds: “OMG! Your hair looks amazing.”

On the subject of red hair, warm coppers, marmalade blondes and red tinges are top colour trends for AW22, so Shay, as usual, is perfectly on-trend for the season.

“This month is all about brunettes after a long summer of blondes. You have two types of brown: cool and warm. The warmer brunettes we’re seeing are deep cherry hues, coppers and olives. It’s not a full-on base shade, it’s accents under the hair created with glosses and toners,” explains Emma Vickery,Percy & Reed salonart director.

This type of colour is also perfect for those wanting a quick change without having to commit to a permanent new shade. Since red fades fast, and toners aren’t made to last longer than 4-6 weeks, you can give an auburn or copper hue a try without worrying about how long it’ll last on your hair.

With other celebs like Jac Jossa and Faye Brookes opting for similar shades, we predict there’ll be plenty of others going over to the red side as autumn turns into winter.
