With the British summer weather changing as much as dates for lockdown restrictions lifting, it’s perfectly understandable if your body care routine has been about as neglected as your passport this year.

And there’s nothing like an impromptu summer social occasion to get you in a flap about what’s going on below the chin. Arms will suddenly be in people’s eye lines as we hug again, legs that have long been languishing under leggings will be set free into midi dresses, and feet that haven’t felt the rough side of a foot file in months will be plonked on the picnic blanket, alarmingly near the plates of sandwiches.

However, if you don’t have the time, energy or inclination to embark upon lengthy preening routines to achieve Love Island-levels of bikini-worthy beauty, these fast fixes will give you smooth limbs, tidy toes, and healthy-looking skin quicker than you can say “pass the Pimms”…

If you have… 10 minutes

For when there’s no time to wait for self tan to develop, a wash-off body makeup product should be your go-to. Gone are the days of thick, showgirl-style “spray-on tights” – nowadays there are lots of sophisticated skin perfectors for the body that just take away that corpse-like grey tinge on the skin without looking like “foundation”. Makeup Revolution Body Veil Face & Body Foundation, £15 here, is a good value alternative to the pricier Vita Liberata Body Blur, and will even out bruises, veins and general pastiness in a completely seamless way.

For simple skin enhancement without the pigment, massage in Beauty Pie Awesome Bronze Luxe Shimmer Oil Body Balm, £15.23 here (members’ price). With a dreamy coconut scent and giving limbs a gorgeous golden sheen, it’s summer in a jar. Dove Skin Glow Oil-in-Milk Body Lotion, £7.69, is similar and had our tester raving about its lovely smell, nourishing feel, and pearly, soft-focus finish on the skin.

If all else fails, distract everyone with a flash of colour. A quick slick of Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Nail Color in one of these colourful Pride-supporting shades, £4.99 here, on fingers and toes will get you feeling summer-ready in 60 seconds.

If you have… two hours

If you’re in a rush to get your pins from stubbly to silky, you want a razor that won’t leave nicks, rashes or burns if you’re being less than meticulous with your shaving technique. Step forward the new Gillette Venus Deluxe Smooth Sensitive razor, £12.99 here, which has soothing aloe vera-infused strips that, when activated with water, produce a slippy gel for a quick, snag-free shave.

For soles that will stand up to scrutiny, the OK! beauty team has been impressed by VOESH New York’s Pedi in a Box, from £9.99 here. There are lots of variations to choose from, such as the O2 Bubbly Spa version, which contains sachets of raspberry-scented foot soak, sugar scrub, a fun foamy foot mask, and massage butter. Sure, it’s not the same as a thorough sand and scrape at the salon, but it’ll make tatty trotters sandal-suitable in a matter of minutes.

If you have… two days

Arms have more than a touch of the “plucked chicken” look about them? Reach for CeraVe SA Smoothing Cream, from £11.99 here. A cult classic product, this thick lotion contains ceramides, urea and salicylic acid to exfoliate and soften dry, flaky or textured skin. It’s especially effective on those bumps on the upper arms (known as keratosis pilaris), and it also works a treat on rough elbows and grey knees.

There’s no denying the boost that a touch of fake tan gives – both to your body and your confidence. Clarins Self Tanning Milky Lotion, £21 here, has a subtle colour and is fairly foolproof in its application. It’s easily absorbed for an even finish, feels hydrating on the skin, and has a gorgeous figgy scent.
