Why do we have bank holidays?
Bank holidays were first observed in 1871, having been introduced by Liberal MP John Lubbock.
These days off work when the banks closed were designed to ease pressure on workers by giving them an extra four days off each year.
Another motivation for the inception of bank holidays was to enable bank employees to have the opportunity to participate and attend cricket matches on these days.
What will the weather be like this bank holiday?
On Monday, the weather is expected to be dry with sunny spells.
Across northern and western areas, bands of high cloud will move across the regions.
Temperatures will feel very warm, with low twenties expected for most days over the weekend through to Tuesday.
