Why do Ant and Dec stand on the sides that they do? Everything you need to know

I'm A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! is back on our screens, and so is everyone's favourite TV presenting duo, Ant and Dec.

The Geordie duo have presented every series of the show since it began in 2002, and it just wouldn't be the same without them and their hilarious one-liners.

From hosting Britain's Got Talent to Saturday Night Takeaway, Ant and Dec have became a staple to our screens over the years.

It has also became well-known that Ant stands on the left, while Dec stays on the right hand side.

But, this hasn't always been the case.

When the pair met on BBC children's drama Byker Grove back in the 90s, they quickly became good pals and went on the launch a music career together.

Continuing to use their characters' names, they opted to call their musical act PJ and Duncan.

The pair released two hit singles, Tonight I'm Free and Ready To Rumble, in addition two albums together. However, Ant and Dec being musicians isn't the strangest part.

During this time, PJ was Dec, therefore Dec stood on the left while Duncan, aka Ant, stood on the right.

When they came to release their third album, they rebranded themselves as Ant and Dec, which saw their traditional right and left positions born.

They have been spotted a handful of times on the 'wrong' sides however, and it continues to send fans into a frenzy each and every time.

Most notably, when they were awarded OBEs in 2017, their interview on Sky News saw them standing the wrong way round.

While fans were understandably confused, it also meant that when their names were displayed on the screen they were standing underneath the incorrect moniker.

Even the presenters found it odd, with Dec exclaiming afterwards: "It just looks weird, it doesn't look right!"

However, they did reveal that the swapping of sides wasn't intentional, and quickly resumed their normal positions.

Ant revealed Dec had been called up to accept his OBE first, adding: "It's normally me first, Ant & Dec, and I'll go first, but today Dec went before me which was a break from tradition."
