Gerwyn Price emphatically ended his TV hoodoo against Raymond van Barneveld and then declared: “I blew him away!”
The third round match-up between the former world champions had been dubbed the biggest match of the tournament so far. There was added spice as a rejuvenated Van Barneveld beat Price twice at the Grand Slam of Darts only last month to extend his unbeaten record against the Iceman in TV matches.
However, after being booed to the oche by a crowd that was passionately supporting the Dutch legend, Price dominated from start to the finish, romping to a 4-0 victory.

After the match, he couldn’t contain his delight as he spoke to Sky Sports. “I can say I’ve beat Raymond on TV, right. Come on!,” he declared. “I blew him away.”
Price quickly quietened the crowd and, aside from a couple of big finishes from Van Barneveld, there was little to stir them.
“Sometimes that’s what you’ve got to do. I had a back-up plan if that didn’t work,” added the 2021 champion. “I was clinical at the right time to go two sets up. I think I played well better than him, I think I was a deserved 4-0 winner.

“So yeah, you can’t say I’ve never beaten Raymond on TV anymore. I’m happy with that one. I’m here to win, I’m not here to make up the numbers. I’m world number one still.”
Price did have some supporters at Ally Pally, his family, whom he embraced as made his way to the stage pre-match.
“My family are here, the crowd are here. I like my family here, I’m not sure I like the crowd here. I have to put up with that,” he said.
