GARY NEVILLE has revealed he had to see a psychiatrist in his playing days after two howlers during a game at the 2000 Club World Cup.
The ex-Manchester United man compared his situation to that of Harry Maguire, who has faced criticism for his performances lately.
Maguire then cupped his fingers to his ears after scoring for England against Albania, which Neville has defended, unlike Roy Keane.
After two errors at the back for United in the 2000 Club World Cup, Neville himself faced criticism that led to him seeing a psychiatrist.
He told the Daily Mail: "Harry Maguire is the future of the club along with some others so I have no doubts about him.
"He is just going through a two or three year mad period like I did. It emotionally drains you. Only three weeks off every summer.
"When he puts his hands to his ears I get it. I once went over to Liverpool fans and gave them loads.
"I once played Vasco da Gama and gave two pass backs away in three minutes, played Edmundo and Romario in, and lost us a World Club Championship and lost my confidence for six months and ended up seeing a psychologist.

"So I have been where Harry Maguire may be today.
"So when he puts his hands to his ears all I would want to know most is whether he regretted doing it after the game or whether he is good with it.
"And if he was good with it then I am good with it."
A host of Maguire's fellow United team-mates have also come under fire after just six wins in 12 games in all competitions.
Midfielder Fred in particular has his doubters, with pundit Keane claiming he would GRAB Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and demand why the Brazilian is playing.
But nobody is feeling the pressure more than Solskjaer himself, who is facing the axe at Old Trafford.
The Norwegian has held crisis talks with Maguire, Cristiano Ronaldo and other senior figures at the club in a bid to work out a season-saving plan.
However the writing could already be on the wall for the ex-striker.
SunSport exclusively revealed United chiefs have made Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers their No1 target to take over from Solskjaer.
The ex-Liverpool manager is even house hunting in Cheshire in preparation for taking the job.
