A Place in the Sun’s Jonnie Irwin makes cheeky comment about guest’s boyfriend

A Place in the Sun property expert Jonnie Irwin made a very cheeky joke about a guest's boyfriend when he was showing them around a French cottage.

In the Channel 4 show on Thursday (May 13) Jonnie was helping musician couple Steve and Aniko find their dream home in the beautiful countryside of Brittany.

They had a budget of £90,000 and wanted an old and characterful home with space for a recording studio because Steve writes and plays music and Aniko is a singer.

Jonnie couldn't help but make an outrageous barb when showing the creative pair around property number one, which had exposed wooden beams and stonework.

"It's nice. I do like quaint things or things that are sort of a bit rustic," Aniko said.

Quick on his feet, Jonnie quipped: "Ok. Hence Steve."

Steve laughed and pointed at himself and said: "Right, the old barn."

Rustic can mean rural relating to the countryside, but also means "made in a plain and simple fashion", as defined in the Oxford Languages dictionary.

Luckily, Steve and Aniko didn't seem to mind the naughty joke and were keen to work with Jonnie throughout the episode.

He found them several characterful homes, but it was property number three, on the market for £80,000, that blew them away.

An emotional Aniko said she started crying before stepping into the property because of the noise of the trees outside.

The couple agreed it was the dream home they had hoped for and, at the end of the show, got Jonnie to give the agent their offer of £75,000.

It was swiftly rejected, as well as a second offer £77,000.

Jonnie told them straight that unless they were willing to give the seller £79,000, they would lose the beautiful cottage forever.

Steve and Aniko agreed to go up one last time, and the offer was finally accepted.

Jonnie frankly said: "Good, that is the right decision.

"I’d have thrown you both in the water if you hadn’t said that."
