Alison Hammond experienced a slightly awkward greeting with Lady Gaga when she met her for an interview, misreading the room as the House of Gucci star went in for a hug.

Throughout her time on This Morning, Alison has become known as one of the most charming and entertaining interviewers to the stars.

Her legendary interview with Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling constantly resurfaces on the internet and has over 14million views on YouTube, as she and the actors descended into fits of laughter while attempting to discuss Blade Runner 2049.

In one of her latest interviews, Alison met Lady Gaga in the very same hotel room where her Harrison and Ryan chat was held as she prepared to talk about the singer’s latest role as Patrizia Reggiani, which some believe could put her in line for an Oscar nod.

When Lady Gaga arrived before the interview began, Alison presented her with her elbow.

However, Lady Gaga wanted to share a warmer greeting, telling the This Morning presenter that she wanted to give her a hug before doing so.

In a clip from the interview, Alison greeted Lady Gaga by saying: ‘Welcome Lady Gaga. It’s so lovely to meet you!’

‘I’d love a hug,’ Lady Gaga said, as Alison responded: ‘I’d love to hug you too.’

While they initially shared an elbow bump, Lady Gaga then decided to go with her instincts, drawing Alison in for a hug instead.

‘Oh my god, I got a hug!’ Alison exclaimed, as the musician went to take her seat.

On Friday’s edition of This Morning, Alison showed the clip of the beginning of her interview with Lady Gaga to Dermot O’Leary, before sharing how shocked she was when she was given a hug by Mother Monster.

She explained that they had all been tested for Covid-19, but still didn’t realise she would share a tight embrace with the multi-award winning artist.

‘I was really shocked, because obviously we’d all been tested, and I didn’t know she was going to go in for a hug! I was giving her the elbow!’ Alison said.

Dermot remarked how nowadays, many people just assume now to give an elbow, rather than make any closer contact.

There is a lot of talk about This Morning following the reports that Eamonn Holmes has ‘quit’ after 15 years.

It’s been claimed that he’s set to join GB News as his next move, with Ruth Langsford unlikely to carry on as a presenter on This Morning in his absence.

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
