From reliving his own days at Cambridge to drawing on his personal experience with OCD, Ben shares some uncanny parallels with his character. The 55 year old actor tells OK! more…

“I [had OCD], quite badly, in my 20s – as plenty of the people who’ve worked with me will attest,” said Ben, laughing.

He continued: “It's reduced as I’ve gotten older. That’s one of the things that really attracted me to the character in the first place. I thought: ‘This was meant for me – this comes along once in a lifetime.’”

And that’s not the only similarity. Ben also has his own history at Cambridge University which provides the backdrop for the show.

When asked if going back to the university he dropped out of to pursue comedy felt strange, he said: “It felt surreal. The publicity shots were taken outside the room of one of my best friends at university where I wrote my very first comedy sketches – very strange!”

On the topic of his highly strung character, Ben said: “Jasper is very intuitive and can see instantly whether someone is telling the truth or not.” Sounds like he’d give Richard Poole a run for his money.

“I always felt that Richard Poole has a heart of gold and a very moral purpose. Professor T, to me, feels slightly amoral. I’m never entirely sure he has everyone’s best interests at heart. I’m not even sure he has his own best interests at heart,” Ben explains.

He continued: “The lovely thing about Richard Poole is that he’s very reliable, upstanding and predictable. You know how he’d behave in a certain situation, but Professor T is very unpredictable.”

As well as beautiful acting from none other than Frances de la Tour and equally brilliant performances from Bridgerton’s Emma Naomi and Journey’s End’s Andy Gathergood this is not one to miss.
