Bill Bailey got so exhausted during training for Strictly that he fell in his koi carp pond one night and couldn’t get out.
The comic, who won the 2020 series, said although he loved doing the BBC dance show he was shattered all the way through it.
He said: “We’ve got some koi. We built the koi pond and a cat fell in it – the neighbour’s cat went in it.
“I went down to get the cat out and I was so knackered from training that I couldn’t get out.
“I was stuck in this koi pond in a foot of water while my wife was hysterical with laughter.
“And I was cursing at her to help me out. She goes, ‘Not until I film it’.”
Bill, 57, added: “You’d start dancing at nine, then train for 12 hours.
“I’d get home – I was just a sort of shell. My wife –who’s a fantastic cook – would make this delicious meal and while that was being done I would sit in the bath.
“I would sit in the bath for a bit and then I’d eat and then I’d go to bed.
“And I’d dip my toes maybe for a bit in the pond to cool my feet off, and then we’d do it all the next day.”
Bill made Strictly history when, aged 55 at the time, he became the oldest winner of the show with his pro partner Oti Mabuse.
He recently addressed his time on the programme saying bosses at the BBC competition had asked him to participate on the show several times.
"What I objected to was the relentlessness of it," he said, adding: "I just thought, I'll never be able to commit to this amount of time, it's ridiculous."
Speaking on Jay Rayner's Out To Lunch podcast, he added: "And then, of course, you know, a once-in-a-century pandemic comes on
"All of this work was just disappearing out the door, all the live gigs, gradually, they all went like dominoes, they all disappeared, I tried doing Zoom gigs, online stuff, and it's pretty grim."
