Clueless star Brittany Murphys death explored in What Happened, Brittany Murphy

It has been 12 years since actress Brittany Murphy passed away.

The 8 Mile and Clueless actress died unexpectedly at the age of only 32, and today would have been her 44th birthday.

A two-part documentary explored her death, which a coroner ruled accidental and caused by a lethal combination of pneumonia, an iron deficiency and medication.

But her death quickly became the subject of conspiracy theories due to the seemingly strange relationship she had with her husband and the manner of her demise.

The documentary, titled What Happened, Brittany Murphy? explores her relationship with Hollywood, as well as her marriage to Simon Monjack.

So how can you watch the documentary?

When and where can I watch it?

For UK viewers, a date is yet to be announced, but it is likely that it will be coming to Sky Atlantic first in the near future.

This is due to the relationship between Sky and HBO that allows the UK broadcaster first pick of HBO programmes.

The documentary focusses a lot of time on her relationship with British screenwriter Simon Monjack, whom she married in 2007.

According to the show, Monjack was a conman who lied about famous celebrities he had dated and having terminal cancer.

Monjack also died of similar causes less than six months later.

Brittany Murphy's death

Rumours about her death quickly intensified, alleging that Murphy was poisoned, murdered, or her death had come about due to drug abuse.

The coroner explicitly ruled this out and said no illegal drugs were in her system when she died.

She suffered from abdominal pain 10 days before her death and developed flu-like symptoms after a trip to Puerto Rico. She developed pneumonia and took medication to deal with serious period pain and anaemia.

On the day of her death, she had taken the antidepressant prozac, klonopin, a beta blocker, various types of pain and cough suppressants and vicoprofen for relief from period pain.

It is possible that she would have lived with hospital treatment.
