Coronation Street confirms filming will continue during latest lockdown

Coronation Street will continue filming during the third national lockdown.

Boris Johnson announced tougher restrictions last night which resemble those of the first lockdown, and there was one thing on the minds of soap fans all across the nation– what does this mean for the soaps?!

The new lockdown means people will only be able to leave their homes for exercise, work, essential shopping and in an emergency, leaving many soap fans to wonder whether it will mean a pause on filming due to the similarities of the first lockdown that saw soaps and continuing dramas like EastEnders and Holby City shut down production.

Luckily for Coronation Street fans, the soap will continue to produce new episodes. A spokesperson told Metro.co.uk that filming will continue per the DCMS guidelines.

Oliver Dowden, the Secretary of State for digital, culture, media and sport, has said that production on film and TV shows confirmed that production could continue on film and TV shows.

He said in a tweet: ‘You should work from home unless you can’t – exemptions include for training and rehearsal of performances, recording studios and film & TV production.’

With Coronation Street confirming they will continue filming, Metro.co.uk has also reached out to the other soaps for official confirmation.
