Spider Nugent faces danger in Coronation Street this week, after he is attacked by Griff.

There is more drama ahead in the ITV soap too, as Spider is left unconscious following the attack – with the character being rushed to hospital to undergo an emergency operation.

However, a surprising revelation awaits him when he wakes up, after former flame Toyah Battersby tells Spider that she cannot live without him.

Is love in the air once again for the former couple?

While Spider's love life on the cobbles has had its fair share of ups and downs in the past, actor Martin Hancock's romance away from the soap has been far less dramatic.

The star is happily married in real life, although he tends to keep his personal life private and not much is known about his wife, or what her name is.

It is also not known whether the couple have any children together.

However, speaking to Daily Star and other press ahead of his Coronation Street return, the actor revealed that his wife and mother-in-law were responsible for him returning to the soap, after co-star Georgia Taylor posted a sweet throwback photo of her and Martin as Spider and Toyah.

Martin said: "Georgia [Taylor – who plays Toyah] put a photo up of us when we were very young. It was one of those Spider and Toyah photos where we are arm in arm with each other and it went into a few of the papers.

"Then my mother-in-law, who is the oracle of all things Corrie, rang up and said: 'E-ar duck, you're in the papers!'

"I looked at it and got all sentimental."

He then explained that his wife encouraged him to re-join the soap, saying: "My wife said: 'You’ve always said you’d go back and you’re not getting any younger so pull your finger out and have a word with your agent'.

"So I had a word with my agent who had a word with Corrie and there was a bit of to-ing and fro-ing and here I am."
