EastEnders fans heartbroken by Ballum scenes as Ben Mitchell breaks down

The drama continues for Ballum on EastEnders.

Tuesday's episode saw Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden) interrupt ex Callum Highway's (Tony Clay) meeting with another man, thinking it was a date and ruining the meeting.

However, this was strictly a professional meet-up for Callum as the man was revealed to be a police colleague of Jack Branning.

Later on, Callum confronted Ben for his atrocious behaviour but was dealt a horrific confession from is ex.

"A man is dead because of me," admitted Ben, thinking he is partially responsible for the death of Keanu Taylor – who viewers know is actually alive.

The guilt of Keanu's 'death' has been proving too much for both Ben and his sister Louise – who had her own shocking scenes in this week's episodes.

"You are too good for me," Ben told Callum in the closing scene of the episode, "and it ain't just stolen cars and a black eye. It's more than that. And it always, always will be."

The struggling son of Phil Mitchell continued: "Now you sit there and you tell me that you ain't scared. Now you sit there and tell me that you love me no matter what.

"Now is your chance. Prove it."

Sadly for Ben, Callum quickly departed, prompting Ben to break down in tears.

Naturally, the heart-wrenching scenes proved too much for Ballum fans, who were left contemplating the drama for quite some time afterwards.

Another commented: "i cant handle Ben crying like that omfg, don’t think we’ve ever seen him break down like that because of his guilt but also callum #ballum "

Meanwhile, another tweeted: "Okay I’m crying. That whole Ballum scene to the Ben duff duff was extraordinary! Like amazing. Both Max and Tony just phenomenal."

Finally, one noted: "Okay now I just thought of Ben going to sleep crying…stifling his sobs into the pillow. Completely heartbroken. Why am I doing this to myself?! #Ballum "

Here's hoping these two kids work things out!

Issues could arise, however, if one of the pair is the character to be killed off in the upcoming 35th anniversary episodes.

EastEnders continues on Thursday night at 7.30pm.
