The schedules for EastEnders are in chaos again as the BBC One soap will be shifted for the Tokyo Olympics.
Back at the start of July, it was announced EastEnders will extend its boxset scheme until August, uploading a week’s worth of episodes on iPlayer every Monday.
The boxsets began at the start of the Euros as a way of ensuring EastEnders viewers caught up on the latest Walford drama without worrying about the ever-changing schedules.
You can still watch EastEnders on your televisions, but the BBC One soap will be pushed back to later in the evening.
As opposed to airing around 7 and 8pm, the week beginning July 26 will see EastEnders air at 9:05 and 9pm, meaning it’s highly likely the soap will air episodes around the 9pm slot for the duration the Olympics is covered on BBC One.
Since EastEnders returned to screen in September 2020, it’s been streamed over 226 million times on BBC iPlayer.
Discussing the continuation of the iPlayer boxsets, Executive Producer Jon Sen said:
‘We’re so glad that the audience has enjoyed getting ahead of the game – keeping up with Albert Square on iPlayer whilst enjoying the Euros, so we’re carrying on releasing the week’s episodes on Monday throughout Tokyo 2020’.
