It looks like a break from the air has done EastEnders the world of good as fan appetite for the show since it returned three weeks ago has proven to be extremely high.
This is particular shown in requests for catch-up on iPlayer, with EastEnders consistently one of the BBC’s top performers. And the numbers have surpassed expectations at the Beeb with over 15 million requests having been recorded in addition to those who have watched live or by other means like recording.
A source explained to Metro.co.uk that this figure is highly likely to increase with traffic to EastEnders episodes on iPlayer remaining high and the results for the last week not fully recorded or accounted for yet.
On social media, the show has received a mostly positive response, particularly with storylines including Chantelle Atkins’ (Jessica Plummer) death at the hands of her demonic husband Gray (Toby Alexander-Smith) and a big, new dramatic strand for Denise Fox (Diane Parish).
On top of that, intriguing new storylines are lined up for Mick Carter (Danny Dyer) and Callum Highway (Tony Clay) while Stacey Slater’s (Lacey Turner) return has been embraced, as have the castings of Simone Lahbib and Mica Paris.
EastEnders recently denied reports that actors were being forced on breaks and they confirmed to Metro.co.uk that there is no intention to introduce a rotation system for their cast.
