Liam Cavanagh (played by Jonny McPherson) had his world turned upside down when his daughter Leanna (Mini Slinger) died in Emmerdale. Liam and the rest of the village still believe the teenager’s death was a tragic accident, but no one knows she was murdered by serial killer Meena Jutla (Paige Sandu). ITV soap star Jonny has hinted his character will turn “murderous” when he discovers the truth about Leanna’s death – could he go after Meena’s sister Manpreet Sharma (Rebecca Sarker) to get his revenge?
It’s been a difficult few months for Liam who still thinks Leanna fell drunkenly fell to her death in a tragic accident earlier this year.
Emmerdale viewers will know Leanna was actually murdered by serial killer Meena after she discovered her lies about Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant).
Meena chased and viciously attacked Leanna before throwing her off a bridge where she horrifically fell to her death.
While Meena thinks she may have gotten away with murder, soap fans will know villains get their comeuppance eventually.
Speaking to Express.co.uk Jonny has signalled his character Liam will turn “murderous” when he learns the truth about his daughter’s demise.
The 39-year-old said: “I just think the red mist will descend, definitely.
“I think it would take an intervention of some sort for him to not want to just destroy [Meena].
“Liam confides in her in a way he doesn’t with other people, and the fact that she would have done all that knowingly, it will just compound the fury that he would otherwise have felt if none of that had happened.
“With every single interaction she has with Liam where she pretends to be his friend, it just digs her own grave ever deeper.”
Jonny admitted Liam has “behaved like a monster” to his partner Leyla Harding (Roxy Shahidi) in wake of his daughter’s death.
Opening up about losing Leanna in the soap, Jonny said: “Yes, after Leanna’s death, the period of grief, depression and all of the repercussions was quite protracted.
“I didn’t anticipate quite how protracted it would be, but I guess that’s unique to a serial drama.”
He added: “Typically in a finite narrative, you’ll just have a couple of peaks.
“On a serial drama, it goes on and on, scene after scene, so it’s months’ worth of sobbing and shouting. Just to stop shouting at everyone was quite pleasant!”
Liam has been struggling with his own emotions for months, so how will he react when he finally finds out Meena killed Leanna?
Will he report her to the police or will he decide to get revenge on the murderer?
The only person Meena appears to care for is her sister Manpreet who also has no idea of her evil ways.
Could Liam decide to go after Manpreet and make Meena watch her sister die so she can feel the same pain he felt after Leanna’s death?
Will an eye for an eye make Liam feel better about losing his daughter or will it only make matters far worse?
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV.
