Emmerdale star Lucy Pargeter has branded her character Chas Dingle ‘selfish’ for the way she has treated Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt) on the show.
The character is set to try and avoid Paddy on the ITV soap this week, as she has doubts about their relationship.
Appearing on Loose Women today, Lucy spoke about the pair reuniting, saying that ‘it’s not going to be plain sailing’ for them both.
Describing Chas as ‘selfish’ and ‘flippant with the relationship’, Lucy said she understands fans’ anger towards her.
‘They’ve been through so much since losing Grace and then having Eve,’ Lucy said, adding that the ‘pub closing down during lockdown’ has added pressure on them.
Discussing the nature of their relationship, she said that while Chas has ‘been so down the route of bad boys’ in the past, Paddy provided much needed ‘stability and love’ in her life.
However, with Chas getting closer to Al Chapman (Michael Wildman) after spotting Paddy going for a drink with his ex Mandy Dingle (Lisa Riley), things are very much up in the air.
‘It’s not going to be plain sailing,’ she said. ‘There’s going to be “more branches” to their relationship.’
While Chas has ‘not strayed’, Lucy revealed that she has come close, and is in a frame of mind where she ‘needs her ego stroking’.
Lucy previously spoke to Metro.co.uk about the abuse she receives as a result of Chas and Kirk’s relationship woes, with many blaming Chase for the problems.
Emmerdale continues tonight at 7pm on ITV.
