Susanna Reid took a cheeky swipe at weather presenter Laura Tobin on Monday’s instalment of Good Morning Britain as they discussed the topic of climate change.
The 50-year-old and her co-host Richard Madeley returned to the hit daytime show as they discussed the latest news headlines with special guests former Prime Minister Gordon Brown and former footballing legend Paul Gascoigne.
But viewers could practically feel the tension in the air later on in the show when the pair discussed the effects of climate change with their colleague Laura as she joined them live from the Thames Barrier.
Things began to get awkward when Richard raised the point that he struggled to listen to the wise words from royal couple Harry and Meghan about flying less when they frequently travel by plane.
Richard said: “I think it’s when people who are in a position to, I suppose, lecture us, go and do something different.
“I'm thinking about Harry and Meghan who made a big deal about flying but at the same time they were flying. I think that’s where the argument gets shaky.
“People tell us what to do and then quietly go ahead and do their own thing anyway.”
Eager to bring up her recent trip to Norway where she filmed the ITV show from Svalbard, Laura explained how she kept emissions low for the programme.
She added: “And that’s the thing with me last week, I wasn’t telling anyone what to do. I was reporting on climate change.
“For anyone who was wondering, we all flew regular class, we didn’t fly business.
“Even if I had been offered it, I wouldn’t have flown that, and you know, what our footprint was was far outweighed by the missions of people watching our reports. So yeah, it’s leading by example,” she explained.
Despite her long-winded response, Susanna couldn’t help but question the weatherwoman’s decision.
Susanna argued: “Erm, Laura I think you should have flown business class frankly. I mean once the plane’s in the air what’s the difference in terms of the emissions?”
As the mum-of-three burst out laughing at the uncomfortable interaction, Laura quickly responded: “No no, I would not do that.”
And it’s fair to say viewers weren’t overly impressed with Laura as they took to Twitter to share their opinions online.
One viewer wrote: “Weather woman trying to cover her hypocrisy.”
Another added: “Laura caught out and waffling to get out of it. Spare the blushes girl we got you!”
A third questioned: “But it was an unnecessary journey. Am I missing something?”
