Gogglebox’s Sophie Sandiford breaks down in tears over ‘awful’ lockdown rules

Gogglebox viewers were feeling emotional during Friday night's episode as they saw fan-favourite Sophie Sandiford break down in tears over the new lockdown rules.

The Channel 4 stars were watching Boris Johnson's announcement for the second lockdown, which is scheduled to end on December 2 as it stands.

But as they watched the Prime Minister, Pete Sandiford noticed his younger sister had gone quiet and asked on her to check on her.

Sophie wiped away tears and sobbed as she said: "It's just sad, isn't it? It's s*** for everybody and it's gonna get ever worse.

"More people will lose their jobs, it's just awful."

Pete comforted his sister and urged her to stop crying, saying it would set him off otherwise.

Viewers couldn't help but get choked up watching the Blackpool lass break down, taking to Twitter to discuss the heart-wrenching moment.

One said: "Poor little Sophie. What a lovely sweet lass she is. Breaking her heart over everything people are going through because of Covid-19 and lockdown. What a lovely soul. Pete is adorable too, making a fuss of her. Aww, my heart."

Another wrote: "Just had my first tear over lockdown. Sending Sophie a big virtual hug."

A third tweeted: "The whole nation just took a big breath as they watched little sister Sophie get emotional about the impact of lockdown. I was OK until I saw that."

Someone else wrote: "If it weren't for social distancing I would give Sophie a hug right now."

A fifth said: "Sophie crying about lockdown sums up 2020! Keep making your awful jokes and reminding us why you and your brother are our favourites!"

Another commented: "Sophie getting upset on Gogglebox is a prime example of how our government have been playing with everyone's mental health."

And a seventh added: "Aww Sophie crying is just sad, bless her for empathising with so many and sharing what most of us feel openly."

Before getting upset, Sophie remarked that her place of work would be forced to close during the second lockdown.

The 24-year-old works as a shop window dresser, while her brother Pete, 26, has a job in insurance outside of the show.
