Theresa McQueen (Jorgie Porter) left Hollyoaks viewers in shock tonight (December 17), as she was unveiled as Silas Blissett’s (Jeff Rawle) mystery mole.
What’s more, she’s in cahoots with former mainstay Seth Costello (Miles Higson), who made a shocking return to the eponymous village.
Silas has been tormenting the McQueens with a sadistic blackmail plot in recent months, but while the serial killer has been pulling all the strings, it soon became clear that he had an accomplice.
Yes, someone on the inside has been feeding him vital information about the clan in question, and — in a shock twist — it was revealed during tonight’s edition of the Channel 4 soap that this mole was none other than Theresa.
‘It’s like one of those films, when you see the twist at the end, and you want to go back and re-watch it knowing about it, and go “Oh!”‘ says actress Jorgie Porter.
Speaking to Metro.co.uk about whether she knew of this big twist prior to her return, she continued: ‘I did, actually. Yes, Brian Kirkwood told me they had this big story, and then he was like: “Theresa is behind it!”, and I was like: “No!”
It was a twist that no-one saw coming, and the secret relationship with Seth has added an extra helping of shock for fans, that’s for sure!
While viewers will no doubt be in shock by Theresa’s betrayal, Jorgie explains that her character has been drive to taking such drastic action.
‘I think her reasons for it is that she is ultimately just so in love, and with Theresa, she loves so much, that she ends up doing such bad things with these men! But she does it because she wants to be loved, and wants everyone to love her. It’s sad in a way, because it never works out the way she wants it to.
‘She has no idea that Silas is involved. And that’s a huge thing. It’s the worst thing possible, really because she trusts Seth so much, and obviously she knows what Silas has done in the past. She knows how bad it is to be involved with him.
‘I think as she’s doing it, she has a slight feeling of guilt, because she knows that her family are great people, but they do all have their problems.
‘But then also, it goes to her having problems as well, so she wants to relate to her family, but also thinks “but me and Seth will go away and be in love together. We’ll have this happy family!”That’s all she’s thinking. The ideal loved-up situation.’
Given that this is Hollyoaks we’re talking about — a village where secrets don’t stay secret for very long — one could argue that it’s somewhat inevitable that Theresa’s actions will be exposed, and that she will face the wrath of her family.
‘They’re hard-faced people, aren’t they?!’ exclaimed Jorgie, ‘They don’t take anything, and they will literally turn on their own family. Theresa is quite alone, and quite lonely in certain situations, so it’s quite heartbreaking.’
But will there be consequences?
‘Yes, definitely,’ she said, ‘I mean, we don’t even know how long Theresa is back for, so… “Oooh!”.
And what type of reaction is Jorgie hoping for from the fans?
‘Ive been having some messages from the fans.’ she said. ‘I’m really lucky in that Theresa does have a lot of fans and they expect big things from her, so when it does become clear, I’m hoping that they’ll be relieved that she’s back in a “plot-twist” type situation.
‘I can’t wait for it come out. It’s been quite a long storyline, as well.
Hollyoaks continues Monday December 21 at 7pm on E4. A festive Friday Favourite featuring Theresa airs tomorrow at 7pm, find out which one here.
