James Bond was created in 1953 by novelist Ian Fleming and has since become a globally recognised icon. The character has been played by seven actors since the first film in 1962 – most recently with Daniel Craig taking up the mantle. One of Bond’s most iconic pieces of equipment is his car, an Aston Martin – and now his famous DB5 is up for sale.
How much is Bond’s Aston Martin DB5 worth?
The Aston Martin DB5 will go up for auction on August 15, 2019, in Monterey, California.
The actual car being sold was not used in films itself but was used for promotional events.
RM Sotheby’s predict the car will fetch between £3.1 and £4.7 million ($4m and $6m) when it goes up for auction.

This 1965 DB5 includes Browning.30 calibre machine guns, wheel-hub mounted tire-slashers, smoke screen dispensers and revolving license plates.
Bond’s DB5 from Goldfinger (1964) is equipped with front and rear hydraulic over-rider rams on the bumpers, a Browning.30 calibre machine gun in each fender, wheel-hub mounted tire-slashers, a raising rear bullet-proof screen, an in-dash radar tracking scope, oil, caltrop and smoke screen dispensers, revolving license plates, and a passenger-seat ejection system.
For its time, an advanced piece of tech in the Aston Martin was the telephone in the driver’s door to communicate with MI6 headquarters.
The car also had a hidden compartment under the driver’s seat for more weapons.

In the aftermath of the success of Goldfinger, Aston Martin saw DB5 sales surge.
Eon Productions, realising the marketing opportunity to be had, ordered two more DB5 saloons in preparation for Thunderball’s release in 1965.
It is one of these two promotional cars which is being auctioned off, with 120 other rare Aston Martins.
Barney Ruprecht, a car specialist at RM Sotheby’s, said: “No other car in history has played a more important leading role on film and in pop culture than the Aston Martin DB5.

“The DB5 is the iconic cornerstone of a marketing relationship that still exists to this day – with the model’s collectable status rooted largely in its 007 fame-and we look forward to exciting car and film enthusiasts alike in the lead up to the auction.
“This is an unbelievably rare chance to play secret agent in a car that offers incredible performance and style in its own right and we’re honoured to offer the Bond DB5 alongside our partners at Aston Martin.”
A guide price for the car is set for between $4,000,000-$6,000,000 (£3,155,920-£4,733,880).
Over the course of forty years, James Bond movies have featured a variety of cars.
