Law and Order: Organized Crime season two recently premiered on NBC and this time Detective Elliot Stabler (played by Christopher Meloni) is undercover. The weight of the assignment is already taking its toll, with Stabler’s personal life paying the price. But it is his son, Eli (Nicky Torchia), who will the most.

What will happen to Eli in season two?

The new season of Law and Order: Organized Crime has thrown viewers straight into the deep end as Stabler is undercover and risking it all in his latest case.

In a bid to infiltrate an Albanian drug cartel, Stabler has stepped out of his comfort zone and given himself completely to the case.

While in the day-to-day of his operation the cartel is the sum of his problems, his life back home isn’t getting any easier.

During the first season, Stabler and his son Eli had a close if strained relationship, with Eli struggling because of Stabler’s long hours.

This has only been amplified by the undercover operation and fans have already seen Eli is going through a rough time during the first episode of season two.

It looks as though it won’t be getting any easier for him throughout the season.

Executive Producer Ilene Chaiken explained to TV Line: “Stabler is a somewhat absent father sincerely doing his best to be there for all of his kids, but especially his teenage son who just lost his mother.

“This will present problems and issues that will develop, and without getting too spoilery, Eli will bear the brunt.”

Stabler is undercover as an ex-con ‘Eddie Ashes’ and as a result, he has very limited personal time.

Disguised with a bald head and grey goatee, Stabler is unrecognisable, which will also keep the pair at arm’s length.

In the first episode of season two, the pair only shared one brief moment together, as Stabler dropped Eli off at school.

Back in season one, his wife Kathy Stabler (Isabel Gillies), tragically died due to complications caused by a cardiac arrest.

Stabler took her death hard, but Eli has been bottling up his emotions since, and it looks like the lack of a mother and father will finally take its effect in season two.

There will be a total of eight episodes in season two, with Eli playing a more prominent role this time around.

Long-term fans of Law and Order will know Stabler has been a staple of the series for years, but Organized Crime has taken a more personal look at the character.

As such, his son Eli has taken centre stage throughout much of the plot but the showrunners have stressed they want to explore the character further moving forward.

Just how Eli will “bear the brunt” remains to be seen, though it will likely be an emotionally charged watch for fans.

The latest Law and Order spin-off clearly isn’t afraid to take the franchise in new directions, as the usual ensemble cast formula has been stripped back.

Stabler has always been a fan-favourite, but in alienating Eli, fans are worried he is pouring himself into his work at the cost of his family.

The veteran detective will have to find a balance between work and his family before he runs the risk of losing Eli for good.

Law and Order: Organized Crime season two is airing Sundays on NBC in the USA. A UK release date is yet to be confirmed.
