Love Island has been hit by more than 1,000 complaints to Ofcom after its July 15 episode, in relation to the casting of Danny Bibby.

Danny entered the villa as another bombshell, however fans immediately called for him to be removed after they discovered he had used a racial slur in a 2019 Instagram comment.

Regarding the episode on July 15, in which Danny entered, there were 1,081 complaints to Ofcom.

The show was hit by another 426 for the episode on July 18.

After fans discovered Danny's use of a racial slur, he apologised from inside the villa in a statement released by ITV.

In the statement, Danny said: "I'd like to take the time to apologise to anyone that may have taken offence to my inappropriate remark. I never meant anything malicious by this comment at all.

"I am not a racist person and it's unacceptable language and ignorant. I meant no offence and feel like I have really learnt from my mistakes and will never use that word again."

He added: "I am a kind loving person and hopefully you get to see that in the show."

Despite his apology, fans wanted him off the show and flocked to Twitter in their droves with their demands.

"We demand that the racist islander Danny is taken off the show immediately," one said.

Another wrote: "Love Island, how are you allowing this racist into the villa let alone show him on TV and letting our sweetheart Kaz go on a date with him? Fuming."

Viewers may just get their wish, as Danny is one of the islanders at risk of being dumped from the show on Wednesday night.

After a public vote, it was announced that Danny, Teddy Soares, Toby Aromolaran, AJ Bunker, Chloe Burrows and Lucinda Strafford were at risk of being dumped.

Their fate lies in the hands of their fellow islanders, who will decide who stays and who goes.

During his time in the villa, Danny has struggled to find a connection, coupling up with Lucinda, who made it clear she was more interested in Aaron Francis.

In Tuesday night's episode, he made a move on AJ Bunker, who is coupled up with Hugo Hammond, and made her a coffee in the morning.
