Lupin: Omar Sy stars in dramatic teaser for Netflix series
Lupin has already become one of Netflix’s most successful international shows, despite only launching at the end of January. The first part of the series featured five episodes following Assane Diop (played by Omar Sy) as he looked for clues about his father’s arrest and death. However, it seems like there could be more to the story than meets the eye.
Was Babakar Diop actually murdered in Lupin?
WARNING: This article contains spoilers for Lupin part one.
Netflix series Lupin follows Assane as he seeks to avenge his father for being wrongly accused of theft many years prior.
As viewers will know, Babakar Diop (Fargass Assandé) was suspected of stealing an expensive necklace from Hubert Pellegrini (Hervé Pierre).
This led to him being arrested before he seemingly took his own life out of the shame of what he had done.
Throughout the series, Assane slowly uncovers more about what really happened when he was just a teenager.

This includes several clues about how his father was framed for the theft.
However, there are also some clues Babakar may have not even taken his own life in the series.
This theory is based on how Pellegrini’s henchman Leonard (Adama Niane) kills journalist Fabienne Beriot (Anne Benoit) for getting too close to the truth in episode five.
Viewers will have noticed the heartbreaking murder was made to look just like Babakar’s suicide.
Many may have connected the dots, which makes it seems like Pellegrini’s henchman also did the same thing to Assane’s father.
Some fans even think the same assassin may have been spotted in prison before Babakar’s death.
This is because in an episode one flashback, a man who looked similar to the henchman smiled creepily at a young Assane just before he found out what happened to his father.
Viewers have posted on Reddit about the theory, predicting it will play a huge role in the show’s return.

User Silver-Ad-3301 speculated whether this could be the same person and wrote: “Is the dad’s suicide actually a murder?”
Others agreed including user Glocket27 who added: “It must be!
“I only noticed it was him in my third rewatch last night.
“The first time I watched the show (the day it came out) when the journalist was hung I thought they did that just to terrify Assane since it was the same way his dad died, but now I see it’s how they actually kill people.”
While Powell_Palmer added: “Yes I thought that was heavily implied.”
If this is the case, it seems like there will be some more big revelations when Lupin returns with its next five episodes.
A release date has not yet been given for these but Netflix has confirmed they will come out in 2021.
Lupin part one is available to watch on Netflix now.
