A man who bombarded Stephanie Davis with gifts, letters and messages on social media has pleaded guilty to stalking.
Alex Boston, 43, admitted the charge on Friday at Liverpool Magistrates’ Court a spokesman for the Crown Prosecution Service has said.
‘Between April 2020 and July 2021, Boston stalked Ms Davis by bombarding her with messages via social media, delivering letters and gifts, and loitering outside her home address,’ said the spokesperson.
Boston was identified through his Instagram account and fingerprint evidence on the letters, the CPS said.
More letters intended for Stephanie, 28, were found at his address.
Boston will be sentenced on December 22.
The CPS said Stephanie, 28, has suffered panic attacks and had to move out of her home due to the ‘frightening and distressing campaign of obsessive and unwanted contact’.
Ronan Molloy, district crown prosecutor for CPS Mersey Cheshire, said: ‘Stalking and harassment can take many forms, but the common denominator in all such cases is an unhealthy fixation on an individual by the perpetrator.
‘Stalking is a serious offence, one which has a significant impact on the victim.
‘The CPS is committed to the prosecution of these offences, working closely with our partners to ensure that victims are supported and protected wherever possible.
‘Stalking is not a form of flattery and is not something women in public life should simply have to expect. It is a harmful practice and it will be taken very seriously.’
Stephanie is best known for her work in Hollyoaks, where she portrayed Sinead O’Connor.
The 28-year-old made her debut in the Channel 4 soap back in 2010, before departing in 2015. She reprised her role three years later in 2018.
Stephanie decided to step down from the role last year, admitting it was ‘not on what she wanted but what she knew was right’.
Sharing a statement alongside an image that read ‘goals: be happy’, Stephanie penned: ‘Sometimes we make decisions based not on what we want but what we know is right!
‘I have loved bringing Sinead into your homes for the past ten years but it’s with a heavy heart I have decided to leave Hollyoaks and now looking forward to working on new and exciting projects. Excited!’
A Hollyoaks spokesperson told Metro.co.uk: ‘In mutual agreement with Lime Pictures, Stephanie Davis is leaving her role as Sinead O’Connor on Hollyoaks.
‘We would like to thank Stephanie for her huge contribution to the show and the enjoyment her character Sinead has brought to fans.’
Metro.co.uk has reached out to Stephanie’s reps for comment.
