Masked Dancer’s finale celebs ‘exposed’ by fans from Cheryl to Peter Kay

The Masked Dancer is in full swing and with only four masked celebs remain on the anonymous dancing show – fan theories are spreading like wildfire.

After the celebrity-spotting dance show premiered on ITV last Saturday night, we've seen eight famous faces unmasked already: Louise Redknapp, Dita Von Teese, Jordan Banjo, Eddie The Eagle, Christopher Dean, Kelly Brook, Craig Revel Horwood and Zoe Ball.

Airing over seven episodes, each show is a whopping 90 minutes long and is hosted by comedian Joel Dommett with a panel consisting of chat show host Jonathan Ross, television presenter Davina McCall, stand-up Mo Gilligan, and Strictly Come Dancing professional Oti Mabuse.

The ITV series shares the same format with its sister show – The Masked Singer – but instead of singing the mystery celebs perform a dance before the panel, who have to try and work out which star is hiding in the costume.

As the talent competition heats up, just four masked dancers now remain in hope of winning the series – and these include the characters of Squirrel, Zip, Scarecrow, and Carwash.

Ahead of the show's grand final, fans have been trying to unmask the anonymous dancers – and flocking to social media to discuss their theories.

Below, the Daily Star has rounded up the juiciest fan theories going before the final four stars reveal themselves.

Squirrel – Cheryl

One of the final contestants competing on the show is Squirrel.

Squirrel is dressed up in a purple crop top with a matching pair of baggy purple cargo trousers and white high heels.

With their glam checkerboard hair tie and glam purple outfit, some may believe the character is a woman.

Fans on social media have been speculating that Squirrel is in fact Girl Aloud star Cheryl, with one Twitter user writing: "That's Cheryl."

The 37-year-old – who is no stranger to TV talent shows as a former X Factor judge – could quite easily fit the bill as Squirrel seems energetic and fashionable on-screen.

A second joined in and tweeted: "Cheryl can do #MaskedDancer."

A third agreed, saying: "I thought Cheryl [was behind the mask]."

Singer Cheryl was the first British female solo artist to have five number-one singles in the UK and held the record for the British female solo artist with the most number-one singles until 2018 when Jess Glynne overtook her.

Last year, she was also a judge on the UK dance competition The Greatest Dancer which premiered in January 2019.

Cheryl is also a mum of four-year-old Bear, who she shares with One Direction star Liam Payne.

Zip – Peter Kay

Some viewers have also become convinced that the character of Zip – who has been sporting a pair of pink sunglasses and a disco-tastic jumpsuit – could be 47-year-old comedian Peter Kay.

Fuel was added to the fire for the rumours during Thursday's show when each character was asked to reveal a word that could help the judges work out their identity.

Zip, who also had a Northern accent, chose the word 'Geraldine' which left many fans believing this could be a reference to Geraldine McQueen – one of Peter's famous TV characters.

One user wrote in: "Zip said Geraldine. It has to be Peter Kay right?"

A second agreed, writing: "Zip must be Peter Kay. Too many clues lead to that conclusion. And the northern accent!! and the car show."

A third tweeted: "Zip is Peter Kay, he was Geraldine in drag…".

Peter Kay is one of the most successful comedians in the UK, and his 2010 to 2011 comedy tour entered the Guinness World Records as the most successful of all time after he played to over 1.2million people.

A decorated performer, he's also won a 2016 BAFTA TV Award for Best Male Comedy Performance.

Scarecrow – Sheridan Smith

The character of Scarecrow appears to be keen on recycling and housekeeping.

Scarecrow made quite a splash on the show as they performed Justin Timberlake and Anna Kendrick's cover of September by Earth, Wind & Fire.

Some viewers reckon 39-year-old actress Sheridan Smith could be lurking behind the Scarecrow mask.

Davina also let slip a possible gender reveal for Scarecrow on Lorraine when she said: "Every time she came out, there was an extra clue in her dungarees.

One fan wrote: "I think Scarecrow was in Inside No 9, maybe Sheridan Smith?" making reference to the "scaring" line Scarecrow came out with on the show which could be hinting at her role in the dark comedy.

Actress Sheridan Smith has appeared in a variety of well-known television shows including Doctor Who, Gavin & Stacey, Benidorm and The Royle Family.

The star has bagged herself a whole set of awards including a BAFTA, a National Television Award, a BPG Award, and she was even appointed an OBE in 2015 for her services to drama.

Kelly Osbourne's name has also been thrown into the ring, though fans were more convinced she could be Frog – who was last night exposed as Kelly Brook.

Carwash – Howard Donald

In their first clue package, the character of Carwash hinted they had a boyband or girlband background.

The "bubble-popping" candidate, who sports a bright red and blue car-wash costume said they feel "more like home in front of a huge crowd, soaking up the atmosphere".

Currently, Take That singer Howard Donald is topping the list on Betfair's odds for Carwash with 6/4.

Perhaps the largest Take That-themed clue was revealed when Carwash announced "I'm gonna let it shine" – which could easily be a reference to Take That's 2006 hit Shine.

53-year-old Howard has also had some dance competition experience – as he judged on German reality talent show Got to Dance from 2013 to 2014.

Take That – which currently consists of Howard, Gary Barlow and Mark Owen – have had a whopping 28 top 40 singles – 12 of which have reached number one.

They've also bagged eight BRIT Awards – including – Best British Group and Best British Live Act.

During his tour with the hit boyband in 2007, Howard suffered a collapsed lung after performing a series of gymnastic stunts on stage but luckily he soon recovered and returned to the tour.

The Masked Dancer continues on ITV at 7.30pm tonight.
