Outlander is yet to be renewed for a seventh season but fans are hoping the adventures of Claire Fraser (played by Caitriona Balfe) and husband Jamie will continue past series six. Actor Sam Heughan has admitted he hopes the Starz show will continue as long as the fans want it too.
There is plenty of source material for the Outlander series to continue past season six courtesy of Diana Gabaldon’s novels, which the show is based on.
While it is yet to be renewed, Jamie star Sam has reassured fans it won’t be coming to an end any time soon.
Speaking to Radio Times, he commented: “As long as people keep wanting to watch us, then we’ll keep making them.”
He also teased details of the upcoming sixth season, again hinting at the arrival of Tom Christie and his daughter Malva.
Sam told the publication: “We’re still in America, we’re in Fraser’s Ridge and there are some new characters who are friends and there are new foes, too.
“But we’re also building up to the War of Independence – nothing is ever easy in Outlander.”
Fans of the novels will know Tom Christie was an enemy of Jamie however, it seems he will look to make a fresh start on the Ridge.
He will bring along Malva, who in the books, causes a large amount of trouble for the Frasers.
Malva poisons Tom and Claire, hoping it will be believed their symptoms are from dysentery, which has spread across the Ridge.
While Claire and Tom recover, Malva later goes on to claim the father of her unborn child is Jamie’s.
There will of course be other settlers on the Ridge as the American Revolutionary War is fast approaching.
It comes after showrunner Matthew B Roberts promised fans coronavirus will not affect the content of the new series.

As season six began filming in January, he explained: “I didn’t want me or the staff changing what the story is for Covid.
“We have a lot of intimate scenes—that’s where we live and breathe.”
The cast and crew are therefore being constantly tested for coronavirus symptoms to stop the virus from halting production.
“We had to figure out how to make sure we tested everybody a million times before they walked onto set and keep that bubble as safe as possible,” he added to ELLE.
“That was our main focus—making sure everybody feels safe walking onto a set in the studios and locations.”
Matthew added the series will focus on 1775 and mostly what’s going on with Claire, Jamie and the Revolutionary War.
“You have a foundation and when that foundation is shaken and there is a revolution, you have to deal with it,” he told the publication. “That’s kind of the theme of the season.”
Outlander seasons 1-5 are available to stream on STARZ and Amazon Prime Video now.
