On Friday’s Gogglebox, Mary appeared as usual alongside partner Giles Wood. The eccentric couple have become a firm favourite on the Channel 4 show, which sees the nation’s biggest TV fans commenting on the week’s programmes. But as the cast tuned into This Morning, Mary wasn’t pleased to see hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield giving viewers the chance to win money through the popular segment Spin to Win.

Spin to Win sees ITV viewers phone in with the chance to win a prize, including a possible £3,000.

As Mary and Giles watched the show, the Gogglebox star commented: “This is really ridiculous.”

She continued: “This idea that you don’t have to work to get money.

“I think it’s giving the wrong message, don’t you?”

Giles responded: “Lighten up Nutty, it’s only 10 in the morning.”

If viewers manage to get through to Phillip and Holly, they must give the Spin to Win passphrase, which changes daily.

The presenters then spin the wheel to determine which prize the viewer has won.

There is often confusion with the segment, with people not answering their phones or knowing the passphrases.

Viewers were quick to complain about Mary’s comments, with some questioning how she could be on the show with “funny” views.

Mol wrote: “This Morning is a bit of fun (not that you don’t know what that is). The segment was a competition!! #getmaryoff #Gogglebox.”

Vanessa file argued: “Mary doesn’t like swearing she got funny ideas about life Giles told her to lighten up it was 10.00 in the morning when she was moaning about the competition on This Morning both her and Giles are appearing on Gogglebox for Money.”

Gab Sadler fumed: “Sorry Mary saying people not working for money….. You’re sat watching TV for money babe #Gogglebox.”

BCCD commented: “Rather disappointed to see Mary and Giles are still on the show [eye roll emoji]. I can just about cope with Giles but Mary needs to go.

“Hates everything and anything, always got something negative to say always moaning and complaining. #Gogglebox.”

Some thought Mary’s comments were correct though, with Elizabeth Dalton stating: “Mary, I agree! You can be home through the day (mainly non-working) and get big money for it Woman shrugging #Gogglebox.”

Oli shared: “Giles and Mary are such a funny couple #Gogglebox.”

Elsewhere in the show, the TV fans watched Gary Lineker’s new game show, Sitting on a Fortune.

They also tuned into a spooky show about people who claim to have been abducted by aliens.

And rounding off the programme was a binge of popular Netflix drama, You.

Gogglebox airs on Fridays at 9pm on Channel 4.
