Playing The Sims is being turned into a reality TV series – where do we sign up?

Computer game juggernaut The Sims is about to become the basis of a brand new reality show IRL.

Yup – the same game where you’d put people in pools and take away the stairs when you’re bored. That one.

Well, it’s certainly evolved since then, and now it’s being turned into a reality show involving humans and a race against the clock.

Thankfully this isn’t a case of actually controlling real people, rather it’ll be about the creators trying to come up with the best Sims adventure they can.

The Sims Spark’d is being launched by Buzzfeed Multiplayer, and will see teams compete for a $100,000 (£79,179) prize by taking part in challenges through The Sims and creating the most captivating stories.

We knew all those hours playing this game instead of doing work would pay off one day!

How the teams are doing will be decided by pro judges – Buzzfeed Multiplayer’s Kelsey Impicciche, singer Tayla Parx, and Sims developer David Miotke.

Expect some seriously unexpected sweet moments – with tears being shed in the trailer alone as they talk about love and loss through the game.

It will launch in the US first on channel TBS, before being uploaded to Buzzfeed Multiplayer the following Monday.

The Sims’ Lyndsay Pearson, general manager of the franchise, said: ‘‘Since its inception, The Sims has been a groundbreaking experience, allowing players to create and virtually live out the stories they create in-game.’

‘We’re continuing that innovative spirit, bringing our community together to compete and showcase their in-game storytelling on a reality show in an entirely new way.’

The Sims Spark’d starts 17 July on Buzzfeed Multiplayer.
