Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) has shown real courage and determination in the wake of Oliver’s tragic diagnosis with incurable mitochondrial disease in Coronation Street – and Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) and Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) have been left deeply worried by how she is ignoring doctor’s advice.
After getting several opinions, the prognosis for Oliver is the same – he won’t ever be able to breathe without life support and it might be time to consider switching it off. Leanne went on to contact a specialist doctor in Germany but this week, she gets devastating news.
She learns that the doctors have all been speaking and collectively decided that the treatment won’t be appropriate for Oliver as he is far too ill and won’t even be able to travel.
Leanne hits rock bottom but still refuses to give up as she accuses the doctors of abandoning her son. But where will she take her fight next? And is she fighting a losing battle.
Steve and Nick do their best to be there for her and understand the process she is going through but Nick also has another major thing on his mind – he recently discovered that he is the father to a son he never knew he had.
His ex Natasha Blakeman (Rachel Leskovac) introduces Nick to Sam while all of this is going on and Nick is surprised by how quickly he and Sam strike up a bond.
After a pep talk from David Platt (Jack P Shepherd), Nick decides that he wants to have his son in this life – but how can he possibly tell Leanne as she is still recovering from her latest terrible news?
Will this latest bombshell push her over the edge and destroy her relationship with Nick?
