Stranger Things season 3: What does David Harbour think of end credits scene?

Netflix dropped Stranger Things season three on July 4 – just in time for Independence Day in the US. Season three had a total of eight episodes like season one, which were released simultaneously. Fans who have raced through to the end were left startled by the conclusion as it looked like one of the key characters from the sci-fi series could have met a grisly end.

Is Hopper Dead?

WARNING: This article contains major spoilers from Stranger Things season 3

Police chief Jim Hopper (played by David Harbour) appeared to be killed off in Stranger Things season three when he was caught in an explosion while trying to close the rift to the Upside Down.

However, there was a glimmer of hope for fans after a post-credits scene cut to the Russian laboratory and showed the Soviets were in possession of an American prisoner.

To this end, Hopper could very well be alive but just whether he managed to emerge from the explosion unscathed is another matter.

WILL THERE BE ANOTHER SERIES OF STRANGER THINGS?

Hopper could end up undergoing a RoboCop-esque transformation if he was left badly injured when he was caught in the blast underneath the Starcourt Mall.

Star Harbour has now spoken about the Stranger Things end credits scene and whether he thinks Hopper is alive or dead.

“I’m very interested in that post-credits scene,” Harbour teased to Entertainment Tonight in a recent interview.

On whether Hopper could be “the American”, he explained: “I mean, I have no idea! I have no idea!”

He continued: “I mean that, of course, is my hope too. It seems pretty crazy though.

“You know, that machine went off and blew up and Hopper seemed to be trapped there.

STRANGER THINGS SEASON 3 ENDING EXPLAINED

“He did glance around a little bit, but he seemed to be trapped and the machine exploded.

“And then you cut to, what was it? It starts with a ‘K’ or something – some town in Russia, right? Where there’s some American and there’s some other prisoner.”

He added: “I don’t know, I mean it seems strange. I don’t know how though.”

IS HOPPER DEAD IN STRANGER THINGS?

Noah Schnapp, who plays Will Byers, also waded into Hopper’s fate, saying: “Oh my god, the ending – it was really sad. I mean, I cried.

“I hope Hopper isn’t fully gone, but I feel like he’ll be coming back. I don’t think he’s gone forever.”

Judging from the stars’ words, it seems highly likely this isn’t the end for Hopper, who is well-loved by audiences the world over.

STRANGER THINGS SEASON 3 EASTER EGGS

If Hopper does return, there’s a sense the character will be irrevocably changed by his experiences.

But whether he’ll be used as either a spy or a weapon by the Russians remains to be seen.

Given Hopper’s close relationship with Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), the Russians are highly likely to exploit him.
